Earn Individual Titles at Northeast-10 Championship
Colchester, Vt. – The Stonehill College men’s and
women’s teams earned victories at the 29th Annual
Northeast-10 Conference Cross Country Championship on Sunday on the
Saint Michael’s College campus.
In the women’s five-kilometer race, Stonehill had four
runners record top-10 finishes to edge the University of
Massachusetts Lowell by 16 points. Southern Connecticut seniorLaura
Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.) claimed the individual title in a time of
18:03.8, winning by nearly 20 seconds over Stonehill freshman Erin
Carmone (Riverside, R.I.). UMass Lowell, winners of last
year’s race, had four runners in the top-12, led by junior
Lyra Clark (Nashua, N.H.) and her third-place finish.
In the men’s eight-kilometer race, Stonehill placed five
runners in the top-10 to earn a nine-point victory over
second-place UMass Lowell. American International freshman Glarius
Rop (Eldoret, Kenya) cruised to victory, finishing in a meet-record
24:22.2 to win by 42 seconds over Stonehill junior Kevin Gill
(Brockton, Mass.). UMass Lowell, champions each of the previous
three years, had two runners in the top-five, led by senior Tim
Guerin (Auburn, Mass.) and his third-place finish.

Northeast-10 Cross Country Championship Set for This Weekend at Saint Michael’s College
South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference will host
its annual cross country championship this Sunday, October 25 on
the campus of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt. The
University of Massachusetts Lowell men’s team and the
Stonehill College women’s team were selected to claim this
year’s championship in a vote by the conference’s head
coaches prior to the start of the season.
The championship is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the men’s
eight-kilometer race, followed by the women’s five-kilometer
race at 11 a.m. Sixteen schools will be competing for this
year’s championship.
On the men’s side, UMass Lowell received a majority of the
first-place votes with 10 for 218 points and were followed closely
by Stonehill with 214 points. The Skyhawks picked up four
first-place votes. Southern Connecticut State University received
the final first-place vote and earned 189 points in the poll.
Bentley University and the College of Saint Rose round out the top
five tied for fourth, as both teams received 151 points.
On the women’s side, Stonehill is favored as the Skyhawks
picked up ten first –place votes and 249 points. UMass Lowell
received five first-place votes and were selected to finish second
(232 points), followed by Adelphi University with 212 points. The
Panthers received the remaining first-place vote. The College of
Saint Rose is picked to finish fourth with 193 points, while
Bentley University rounds out the top five after edging out
Southern Connecticut by one vote. The Falcons received 184 points
while the Owls picked up 183.
Last year, UMass Lowell claimed both the men’s and
women’s team championship titles. It marked the third
straight title for the River Hawk’s men’s team and the
first title for the women’s team since 2005.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the
distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the
country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports
provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the
largest such program of any Division II conference.
