Stonehill Wins First-Ever Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Championship
South Easton, Mass. - Top seed Stonehill defeated second-seeded
Bentley University 5-1 to claim the team's first-ever Northeast-10
Women's Tennis Championship Sunday afternoon at the Charles Watt
Courts.
The Skyhawks jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles
competition. Lindsay Herchel and Amy Toegemann teamed up for an 8-3
win at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Samantha Dircks and Leah
White won at No. 2 doubles by the score 8-2. Bentley's No. 3
doubles squad of Kara Murphy and Ellen Mader took the victory in
their match with an 8-6 win.
In singles action, Stonehill's top two flights recorded victories
as Herchel picked up the win at No. 1 singles, winning in straight
sets 6-0, 6-2. Toegemann took the victory at No. 2 singles in
straight sets as well with scores of 6-0, 6-3. Sarah Hickey picked
up the win at No. 5 singles by the score of 6-4, 6-2.
With the victory, Stonehill is now 19-3 overall, while Bentley is
14-8

Top Seeds Prevail In Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Quarterfinals
South Easton, Mass. - The top four seeds in the Northeast-10
Women's Tennis Championship all advanced on to the semifinals with
quarterfinal victories Tuesday afternoon. The semifinal matches
will feature #4 Saint Michael's traveling to #1 Stonehill, while #3
Southern New Hampshire will be at #2 Bentley. Both semifinal
matches are set for 3 p.m. starts.

Assumption 0
Top seed and Northeast-10 Regular Season Champions Stonehill
College won in convincing fashion with a 5-0 victory over #8
Assumption College. The Skyhawks started the match with three
doubles victories led by No. 1 doubles partners Lindsay Herchel and
Amy Toegemann won 8-0. Samantha Dirks and Leah White won at No. 2
doubles 8-2 and Sarah Hickey and Haley McNeel complete the doubles
sweep with a 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Herchel recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1
singles and Hickey clinched the match victory at No. 5 singles,
6-1, 6-0.

Bentley University jumped out to an early 2-1 match lead with
victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles on its way to a 5-1 victory
over #7 Le Moyne College.
Bentley's No. 2 Doubles combo of Kelly Fleszar and Andrea Hollot
narrowly defeated Le Moyne's Marielle Artessa and Caroline Tisdell
9-7, while No. 3 doubles partners Kara Murphy and Ellen Mader won
8-1 in their match with Le Moyne's Brittany Recchia and Molly
Slifer.
The Falcons also received victories at No. 3 singles as Marcia
Gilbride won 6-3, 6-3 and in No. 4 singles and No. 5 singles as
Hollot and and Murphy won their matches respectively.
Le Moyne's No. 1 doubles team of Allison Cohen and Tirzah Walrath
picked up the Dolphins lone victory with a 8-0 win over Bentley's
Gilbride and Heather Haggerty.

Third-seeded Southern New Hampshire bounced back after trailing
2-1 after doubles action to defeat sixth-seeded Saint Anselm 5-4
and advance to the NE-10 semifinals. The Hawks jumped out with two
doubles victories as No. 2 doubles combo of McAul Lindermuth and
Erika Sartor won 8-5, while No. 3 doubles partners Kandi
Winchenbach and Mary Mindek won 9-7. Southern New Hampshire's #1
doubles team of Amber Chandronait and Catalina Echeverry won
8-3.
Chandronait and Echeverry each won their singles matches as
Chandronait won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-3, while Echeverry
was victorious at No. 2 singles in three sets after dropping the
first set 2-6. She rebounded and won the next two 6-1, 6-0. Also
picking up singles victories for the Penmen were Alison Waring at
No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-4) and Meghan Welch at No. 6 singles (1-6,
6-3, 6-3).
For the Hawks, Erika Sartor was victorious at No. 3 singles
winning 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 and Erin Sullivan was victorious at No. 5
singles winning 6-0, 6-3).

Fourth seeded Saint Michael's College deated fifth seeded
Merrimack College 5-4 in a narrow victory to advance to the
Northeast-10 semifinals.
The Purple Knights received match victories from Emily Ogilvy at
No. 6 Singles with a 7-5, 6-4 win. Lindsay Horne earned a three-set
win at No. 1 singles and Eileen Mullowney picked up a victory at
No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-2). Mullowney also won at No. 3 doubles with
Catherine Dalton, while No. 2 doubles partners Marran Ranks and
Marybeth Ash won their set 8-3.
Merrimack's Amanda Carroll won twice, at No. 3 singles and at No.
1 doubles, teaming with Caitlin Dunn. Cristina Lucin and Stellina
Saia also won for the Warriors at No. 2 and No. 4 singles,
respectively.

Stonehill Earns Top Seed in Upcoming Women’s Tennis Championship
South Easton, Mass. – The Stonehill College Skyhawks secured
the top seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Women’s Tennis
Championship. Stonehill claimed its first Northeast-10 Regular
Season Title since 2006 after finishing conference play with a
perfect 12-0 record.
Bentley University (12-7, 10-2 NE-10) and Southern New Hampshire
University (10-3, 10-2 NE-10) each finished 10-2 in conference
play, however due to their regular season victory the Falcons
received the second seed and the Penmen picked up the third seed.
Saint Michael’s College (13-5, 9-3 NE-10) received the fourth
seed in the championship over Merrimack College (10-6, 9-3 NE-10)
due to the Purple Knights recent regular season win over the
Warriors.
The top four seeds will host quarterfinal matches on Tuesday,
April 21.
Quarterfinal matches include #8 Assumption College (5-8, 5-7
NE-10) at #1 Stonehill, #7 Le Moyne College (6-8, 6-6 NE-10) at #2
Bentley, #6 Saint Anselm College (7-5, 7-5 NE-10) at #3 Southern
New Hampshire and #5 Merrimack at #4 Saint Michael’s.
Quarterfinal matches are slated for a 3 p.m. start.
The semifinal round will be on Thursday, April 23 with the winner
of Assumption/Stonehill facing the winner of Merrimack/Saint
Michael’s. The other semifinal matchup will feature the
winner of Le Moyne/Bentley versus the winner of Saint
Anselm/Southern New Hampshire. Semifinal matches will take place at
the higher remaining seeds and are set for 3 p.m.
The championship match will take place in conjunction with the
men’s tennis championship final on Sunday, April 26 at
Stonehill College. The women will kick-off the combined
championship final at 12 p.m. followed by the men’s tennis
championship final at 3:30 p.m.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
