Bryant Claims Top Seed In Northeast-10 Baseball Championship

South Easton, Mass. – The Bryant University Bulldogs secured
the top seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Baseball Championship
presented by Diamond Sports and UBS/The Ricciardi Group.
For the first time since 1998, Bryant won the out-right
Northeast-10 Regular Season Title. The Bulldogs, 37-15, 25-5 NE-10,
won the Markey Division in 2002 and a share of the regular season
title in 2000 with Stonehill College.
Earning the second seed in the tournament is Southern Connecticut
State University (33-15, 23-6, NE-10). The Owls, along with the
Bulldogs will receive first-round byes and advance to the
double-elimination part of the tournament at Franklin Pierce
University.
With a 20-10 conference record, Franklin Pierce (35-12, 20-10,
NE-10) picked up the third seed, while the University of
Massachusetts Lowell (25-23, 18-12 NE-10) will be the fourth seed
and both will host First-Round contests. Pace University (30-21,
18-12 NE-10) received the fifth seed due to the River Hawks 2-1
season record versus the Setters. Bentley College (22-24, 17-13,
NE-10) rounds out the tournament field as the sixth seed.
First-Round games begin Wednesday, May 7 and include #6 Bentley at
#3 Franklin Pierce for a 3 p.m. start, while #5 Pace travels to #4
UMass Lowell for a 4 p.m. start.
The tournament continues on Friday, May 9 at Franklin Pierce with
the winner of Bentley/Franklin Pierce facing #2 Southern
Connecticut at 4 p.m. followed by the winner of Pace/UMass Lowell
matching up with #1 Bryant at 7 p.m.
Day two action of the double-elimination tournament consists of
three games on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 11 a.m., followed by
a 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. contest. The tournament concludes on Sunday,
May 11 with a 12 p.m. contest and will be followed by a 3 p.m. game
if necessary.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
