Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Mike DiReda, Assumption (Jr., 3B, Shrewsbury, Mass.) - Hit .519
(14-for-27, 10 RS, 4 2Bs, 3B, HR, 10 RBI) and slugged .852 (23 TB)
last week. Went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, and three
RBI versus Southern New Hampshire. In a doubleheader sweep of Saint
Rose, went 6-for-9 with five runs scored, six RBI, and a home run.
In a three-game series with American International, hit .428
(6-for-14) with four runs scored, a double, a triple, and an RBI.
Did not commit an error in 18 chances.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Dan White, UMass Lowell (So., SP, Southboro, Mass.) - Pitched a
complete game, two-hit shutout in the 2-0 win over Southern New
Hampshire. Struck out two and retired 13 in a row during the
game.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Kyle Cabral, Franklin Pierce (Fr., OF, New Bedford, Mass.) - Hit a
combined .333 (5-for-15) with four runs scored, a double, home run
and eight RBI in a 4-1 week. Was 2-for-3, including a grand slam to
go with a double and four RBI in victory over Bryant. Was a
combined 3-for-6 with five RBI in the DH split against the
Bulldogs. Batted 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI in game
two of Sunday's DH sweep of Saint Michael's.
Weekly Honor Roll:
David Dest, American International (Sr., 2B, Orange, Conn.) -
Batted .429 (9-21) with five RBI and four runs scored in a 3-2
week. In three wins over Assumption, hit 9-for-13 (.692) with a
double, five RBI and four runs scored. He went 4-for-4 with three
RBI and two runs scored in the 17-9 win and went 2-for-5 with two
RBI in the 9-4 victory. Went 3-for-4 in game two of the
doubleheader with a pair of runs.
Jeff Rustico, American International (Sr., C, Plantsville, Conn.)
- Batted .429 (9-21) with four RBI and four runs scored in a 3-2
week. Went 3-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored in the 17-9 win
over Assumption and went 3-for-3 with a run scored against Southern
New Hampshire. Also went 2-for-4 at Post.
Taylor Ferguson, Bryant (So., OF, Charlton, Mass.) - Hit .389
(7-for-18) and scored four runs with three RBI in the 3-2 week,
including one run scored and an RBI in a 6-5 win over Franklin
Pierce. Drew one walk and was 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts with
a .450 on-base percentage.
Steve Carr, Franklin Pierce (Jr., 1B, Nahant, Mass.) - Batted .500
(7-for-14) with four runs scored, a double, home run and four RBI
in a 4-1 week. Slugged .786 and posted a .611 on-base percentage
for the week. Was 1-for-2 with an RBI in win over Stonehill. Was a
combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored in DH split with Bryant. Hit
a combined 3-for-6 with a double, homer, two runs scored and three
RBI in the DH sweep of Saint Michael's.
Tom Cote, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SP, Swanzey, N.H.) - Allowed two
earned runs on four hits with ten strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work
against Stonehill. Was perfect through the first 3.2 innings of the
Ravens win.
Kevin Rivers, Franklin Pierce (So., OF, Bristol, Conn.) - Batted
.438 (7-for-16) with five runs scored, three doubles, a home run
and five RBI in a 4-1 week. Slugged .813 and posted a .500 on-base
percentage, with two outfield assists for the week. Was 2-for-4
with a double and run scored in win over Bryant. Hit a combined
4-for-6 with two doubles, a homer, three runs scored and five RBI
in the DH sweep of Saint Michael's. Was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a
homer and five RBI in game one against the Purple Knights.
Scott Savastano, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SS, Plymouth, Mass.)
– Had a .563 batting average (9-for-16) with six runs scored,
a double, four home runs and nine RBI in a 4-1 week. Slugged 1.375
and posted a .579 on-base percentage, while playing error-free in
15 chances at shortstop. Hit 2-for-4 with a go-ahead solo homer in
the bottom of the eighth inning in a 4-3 win over Stonehill to open
the week. Was a combined 4-for-7 with a double, two homers, four
runs scored and two RBI in split with Bryant. Hit 3-for-4 with two
homers in game one win over the Bulldogs. Batted 3-for-4 with a
grand slam and six RBI in game two victory over Saint
Michael's.
Anthony Santos, UMass Lowell (Sr., 2B, Chelmsford, Mass.) –
Hit .308 and scored five runs along with four RBI last week. Went
4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in the 9-5 win over Saint
Anselm.
Mike Coppinger, Merrimack (Jr., SP, Medway, Mass.) - Fired a
complete-game four-hit shutout against Stonehill, giving Merrimack
the 2-0 victory.
Brendan Pyburn, Merrimack (So., 2B, Gloucester, Mass.) - Stole
seven bases in three games against Bentley. Also hit (.381)
8-for-21 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Jack Cawley, Pace (Sr., OF, Bronx, N.Y.) - Batted .316 (6-for-19)
with three runs scored, four RBI, a double and a homerun, while
going 2-for-2 in stolen bases in a 3-2 week. Went 4-for-7 in a
doubleheader split with Saint Anselm with two runs scored, a double
and a game-tying grand slam homerun in game two.
Dustin Corbett, Pace (Sr., SP, Vestal, N.Y.) - Tossed a two-hitter
over seven innings, striking out seven in a win over Southern
Connecticut.
Neil Hesek, Saint Anselm (Fr., SP, Northboro, Mass.) - Picked up
the win in the 3-1 victory over Bryant. Hurled a complete game,
allowing five hits, one run, walking only two and striking out
one.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Freshman Chris Hardy (Warwick, R.I.) saw
his hitting streak snapped at 20 games.
BRYANT: The regionally second-ranked Bulldogs
took their third win of the season over a nationally-ranked squad,
beating No. 5/7 Franklin Pierce in Game Two of Thursday's
doubleheader, 6-5. Bryant topped No. 1 Mount Olive, 5-4, and No. 9
West Chester, 1-0, earlier in the season.
SAINT ANSELM: With the save over Pace, David
Giarrusso (Cranston, R.I.) becomes Saint Anselm's all-time career
saves leader with seven career saves in just his sophomore season.
To this point in the season, Giarrusso has four saves.
