South Easton, Mass. – For the third
straight year, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has
been selected to claim the 2010 Northeast-10 Regular Season title
as voted by the conference’s 14 head coaches. The Ravens
collected 11 of the possible 14 first-place votes for 167
points.
Franklin Pierce (37-18, 24-6 NE-10) won its third straight
Northeast-10 championship last year after claiming its third
regular season title in four years. The Ravens also earned the
second seed in the NCAA Division II East Regional and hosted the
regional for the fifth straight season.
Northeast-10 newcomer, Adelphi University (34-16, 17-7 ECC) and
Southern Connecticut State University (25-20, 20-10 NE-10) both
received a total of 139 points and finished tied for second place.
Adelphi won the East Coast Conference championship last year and is
in its first season as a member of the Northeast-10.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell (25-21, 15-15 NE-10) is
slated to finish fourth after picking up one-first place vote and
137 points, while the University of New Haven (22-21, 16-14 NE-10)
rounds out the top five with 113 points.
Assumption College (33-21-1, 20-9-1 NE-10) picked up 110 total
points, and the final two first-place votes for a sixth place
showing, as the Greyhounds edged out Bentley University (28-22,
19-11 NE-10) by four votes. The Falcons are picked to finish
seventh after collecting 106 points. Pace University (20-30-1,
13-17 NE-10) received 81 points for an eighth place finish, while
Stonehill College (24-22, 14-16 NE-10) is picked for ninth place
with 69 points. The College of Saint Rose (21-27, 14-16 NE-10) and
Southern New Hampshire University (14-26-1/11-18-1 NE-10) tied for
tenth place with 57 points each.
Saint Anselm College (16-31, 11-19 NE-10) is picked to finish 12th
with 50 points and is followed by Merrimack College (20-27, 11-19
NE-10) (13th – 34 pts) and American International College
(8-34, 6-24 NE-10) (14th – 15 pts).
The 2010 season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 13 as Bentley
travels south to face Rollins College. The next day on Feb. 14,
American International and Southern Connecticut jump start their
season in Petersburg, Va. (.)
The first Northeast-10 conference contests are slated for Tuesday,
March 16 and the Northeast-10 Championship will begin on Thursday,
May 6 and will conclude on Sunday, May 9 with the championship
final.
