South Easton, Mass. – The Bentley University football program jumped two spots and is ranked fourth in the second installment of the NCAA Division II Super Regional One rankings. The rankings were released by the NCAA Division II Football Committee. Last week the Falcons were ranked sixth in the region.

Bloomsburg University, member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, is ranked number one in the Super Regional One with a 7-0 record.

Bentley enters the week coming off a huge win over Southern Connecticut State University this past weekend to force a tie atop the Northeast-10 standings. The Falcons held the Owls offense to only 14 points in the 17-14 victory. Both teams are currently tied for first place with a 4-1 record in the NE-10 with Bentley holding the tie-breaker over Southern Connecticut.

Senior place kicker Tyler McNamara (Medway, Mass.) broke a 14-14 tie with his conference leading 12th field goal of the season. McNamara connected on the 18-yard field goal with just over ten minutes to play in the fourth quarter to give the Falcons the three-point lead.

The Bentley defense held the Southern Connecticut offense in check as senior defensive back Chris Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) tied the Bentley single-game record with three interceptions. He currently leads the Northeast-10 with seven interceptions this year. Senior linebacker Matt Zahoruiko (North Andover, Mass.) recorded a game-high 15 tackles in the win.

Junior quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale, Mass.) led the offensive charge for the Falcons completing 18-of-32 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Junior wide receivers Kyle Tuthill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) andJohn Malone (Walpole, Mass.) were on the receiving end of Johnson’s touchdown passes.

Bentley (6-1, 4-1 NE-10) will travel to Pace on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.

With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
