WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University senior Tyler
McNamara (Medway/Medway HS) was among a dozen
Division II and III placekickers recognized by the Fred Mitchell
Award for excellence during the month of October.
Bentley, 8-1 overall and ranked 24th in Division II, won three of
four games during the month of October and McNamara was a key
reason why the Falcons enjoyed that level of success. He began by
kicking a school record four field goals, including three in the
fourth quarter, in the team’s only loss, 14-12 at
Merrimack.
McNamara kicked the game-winning field goal in a 17-14 victory
over Northeast-10 preseason favorite Southern Connecticut, made the
game-winning PAT with 8.6 seconds left for a 28-27 win at Pace
University, and scored the final four points with a PAT and a field
goal in a 24-20 win against Assumption.
McNamara, who became the fifth player in Bentley history to
surpass 200 career points, was perfect on nine extra point tries
during the month and was six of eight on field goals. He leads the
conference in field goals with 13 and is fifth in the NE-10 in
scoring (61 points).
McNamara also found time to help out the kicker, holder and
snapper with the Waltham Pop Warner A team.
This is the second straight month that McNamara has been
recognized by the Fred Mitchell Award. At the end of the season,
the first Fred Mitchell Outstanding Placekicker Award will be
presented to the top Division II and III placekicker, based on
excellence on the football field and in the community.
Bentley, which has clinched a tie for the Northeast-10
championship and has its sights on the program’s first NCAA
playoff berth since 2004, finishes the regular season Saturday at
Stonehill (12 noon).
