NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University
athletic department has announced that it will host a ‘Play 4
The Cure’ event on Oct. 4 in conjunction with its field
hockey game against St. Anselm.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Owls
have will look to raise awareness for this cause through this
event. The team will wear pink jerseys and pink socks for the game,
and all fans in attendance will receive special pink-themed
promotional item giveaways.
In addition, there are several other opportunities for fans to
contribute to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the global leader in
the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative
research and community-based outreach programs. A representative
from the Komen Connecticut Chapter will be on site to collect
contributions.
On game day, SCSU fans, students, parents and alumni can either
make a one-time donation or donate a flat rate based on each shot
on goal taken by the two teams in the game.
Southern Connecticut student-athletes will also be on hand to
collect pink Yoplait yogurt lids as part of that company’s
‘Save Lids to Save Lives’ program. Each year, Yoplait
donates 10 cents to the Komen Foundation for every pink lid that is
collected and sent back in.
