Northeast-10 Player and Goalkeeper of the Week
Alyssa Sliney, Bentley (Jr., GK, Brewster, Mass.) - Was named the
MVP of the Northeast-10 championships after leading the Falcons to
their eighth title and first since 2002. Posted a pair of 1-0
shutouts against the NE-10's two highest scoring teams and extended
her scoreless streak to 324:29. Had a total of eight saves,
including six in the first half against UMass-Lowell in the
championship final.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Stephanie Sideris, Bentley (Fr., M, Watertown, Mass.) – The
2008 NE-10 Freshman of the Year set up the game-winning goal in the
championship game with her penalty corner, a 1-0 victory over UMass
Lowell.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Courtney Bartlett, Bentley (Jr., F, Brunswick, Maine) - Scored the
winning goal 1:14 into overtime in the NE-10 championship game,
giving the Falcons a 1-0 victory over UMass-Lowell. Was named to
the All-Tournament Team.
Nicole Murphy, Bentley (Jr., M, Dedham, Mass.) - Had the only goal
in the 1-0 semifinal win over Southern Connecticut and provided the
assist in the 1-0 OT win over UMass-Lowell in the conference
championship game.
Jenna Panzone, Bentley (Jr., D, East Falmouth, Mass.) - Was named
to the All-Tournament Team at the NE-10 Championships after helping
the Falcons shutout the conference’s two highest scoring
teams, 1-0.
Stephanie Howard, Franklin Pierce (Sr., D, Norwalk, Conn.) -
Scored the first goal of the game on a penalty stroke in the NE-10
quarterfinal versus Southern Connecticut. Was named to the NE-10
All-Tournament Team.
Ashley Abernethy, Franklin Pierce (Jr., F, Bellingham, Mass.) -
Scored a breakaway goal as time expired in the first half in the
NE-10 quarterfinal versus Southern Connecticut.
Amy Carbon, UMass Lowell (So., GK, Bellingham, Mass.) - Named to
the Northeast-10 All-Tournament Team. Allowed just three goals and
made 10 saves in 141 minutes of play during the NE-10
Championships.
Sammy Macy, UMass Lowell (So., F, Tewksbury, Mass.) - Scored two
goals and added an assist in the semi-final win over Stonehill.
Jaci Moulton, UMass Lowell (Jr., F, Baldwinville, Mass.) - Named
to the Northeast-10 All-Tournament Team. Scored the game-winning
goal in the semi-final win over Stonehill.
Jordan Smalling, Saint Michael's (Sr., GK, Essex Junction, Vt.) -
In a 3-2 quarterfinal loss to Stonehill, stopped a career-high 15
shots and was named to the NE-10 All-Tournament Team.
Sara Winterbottom, Southern Connecticut (So., M, Burlington,
Conn.) - Scored a pair of goals in the 6-3 win over Franklin Pierce
in the Northeast-10 quarterfinals.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Bentley’s Northeast-10 playoff
championship was its eighth overall and its first since 2002.
Junior goalie Alyssa Sliney, the MVP of the conference
championships, has not allowed a goal in her last 324:29, dating
back to Oct. 18. The Falcons’ 16-game winning streak is the
team’s longest since the 2004 team won 19 in a row. Stephanie
Sideris (Watertown, Mass.) became the fifth Bentley player since
2001 to be named the NE-10 Freshman of the Year.
Bentley’s “Play 4 The Cure” breast cancer
fundraiser raised over $2,000 for the Susan B. Koman Breast Cancer
Foundation.
