STONEHILL’S O’BRIEN NAMED NORTHEAST-10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR

South Easton, Mass. – Stonehill College’s Brendan
O’Brien (Braintree, Mass.) has been named the 2006-07
Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Player of the Year as voted by
the conference’s six coaches.
O’Brien led the Northeast-10 Conference in assists (31),
power play points (23), third in total points (43), and eighth in
goals (12). O’Brien was also named First-Team All Conference.
Last season, he was the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year.
Saint Anselm College’s Jason Zuck (Clifton, N.J.) was named
the Northeast-10 Goaltender and Freshman of the Year. He led the
Northeast-10 in save percentage (.914) as well as in goals against
average (2.27). Zuck was also named to the All Conference
First-Team.
Saint Anselm’s Brett Smith (Hudson, Mass.), last
season’s Defensive Player of the Year, captured the honor
again this season. Smith has been part of the Hawks defense, which
has held opponents to 2.81 goals per game. This season he has
racked up six goals, 13 assists, and 19 points. Smith was also
named to the All-Conference First-Team.
Stonehill’s Scott Harlow earned Northeast-10 Coach of the
Year honors for the third time in a vote by his peers (2006-07,
2005-06, 2001-02). Harlow has guided Stonehill to a 13-12-1 overall
record (3-1-1, NE-10) and to the finals of the Northeast-10
Championship for the first time in school history.
Joining O’Brien, Smith, and Zuck on the Northeast-10 All
Conference First-Team is Saint Michael’s Jared Silver,
Southern New Hampshire’s Brandon Hammermeister, and
Stonehill’s Jim Florentino.
Picking up Northeast-10 All Conference Second-Team honors were
Saint Anselm’s Pat Forshner, Saint Michael’s John
Burns, Southern New Hampshire’s Dominic DiMarzo, and
Stonehill’s Matt Curran, Matt Gorman, Josh Green, and Billy
Ninteau.
