Weekly Notes:
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL: Head coach Art Luptowski
won his 300th career game with a win over Saint Rose Saturday. He
has compiled a 300-214 career record in 18 years as a collegiate
head coach. BENTLEY: With its win over UMass Lowell on Saturday,
undefeated Bentley broke its own Northeast-10 record for conference
wins in a season, improving to 21-0. That bettered the 20 NE-10
wins the Falcons posted two years ago. Regardless of what happens
in Tuesday's season finale at Assumption, Bentley will set a
conference record for biggest winning margin. The Falcons lead the
NE-10 by seven games in the loss column, with the biggest previous
differential being five games (Saint Anselm, 1995-96, and St.
Michael's, 1996-97). Bentley is currently one shy of the longest
winning streak in school history, 26 games (1971-72). SAINT
MICHAEL'S: Junior James Sorrentine (Pawtucket, RI) became
the 39th player in program history to score 1,000 career points on
Wednesday versus Bryant. Sorrentine is the first junior to reach
the milestone since Mark Pater '01 and Todd Roberts '01 did so
during the 1999-2000 season. SOUTHERN NEW
HAMPSHIRE: Freshman Paul Chergey (Bow, NH) scored a
career-high 35 points in Southern New Hampshire’s non-league
win over New Haven Saturday. He came two points shy of tying the
school-record for points in a game by a freshman set by Orlando
“Bino” Ranson during the 1995-96 season. He also became
the first player to score 35 or more points in a game since
All-American Soto Karapostolou did so twice in 2002-03.
