Le Moyne Selected to Claim 2008 Men’s

South Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College Dolphins (7-2,
NE-10) were picked to finish on top of the Northeast-10 Men’s
Lacrosse standings this upcoming season as voted by the
conference’s 11 head coaches.
Last year’s Division II National Champion, the Dolphins
received 10 first-place votes out of a possible 11. Le Moyne won
their second straight Division II National Championship last season
as they became the league’s first three-time National
Champion. The Dolphins won their first title in 2004.
Bryant University (9-0, NE-10), last year’s Northeast-10
Regular Season Champion, is picked to finish second after receiving
109 points. The Bulldogs ended Le Moyne’s seven year reign as
the conference’s regular season champion by winning its first
ever title. The Dolphins though did claim their seventh straight
NE-10 Championship over Bryant, a 5-4 victory in last year’s
championship game.
Saint Michael’s College (7-2, NE-10) received 94 points and
is selected to finish third in the standings ahead of Merrimack
College (5-4, NE-10) whom received the final first-place vote and
89 points. Saint Anselm College (4-5, NE-10) is predicted to finish
fifth after receiving 66 points, slightly ahead of Pace University
(4-5, NE-10) with 61 points. The Penmen of Southern New Hampshire
University (3-6, NE-10) edged out Bentley College (3-6, NE-10) for
the seventh place spot with 59 points. The Falcons are picked to
finish eighth with 54 points.
Assumption College (3-6, NE-10), Franklin Pierce University (0-9,
NE-10) and American International College round out the poll
respectively.
The 2008 season gets under way this weekend as Bryant plays host
to Adelphi University on Saturday. The first NE-10 match-up of the
season is set for Saturday, March 15 as Saint Michael’s
travels to Saint Anselm. The Northeast-10 championship begins on
Tuesday, April 29 with First-Round action and will conclude on
Sunday, May 4 with the championship game.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
