Mike Kulas Named Assumption Men's Soccer Head Coach
Dec 20, 2005

Michael Kulas, an assistant coach with the University of Hartford under Coach Dan Gaspar, and a former standout player at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire University, has been named the head men's soccer coach at Assumption College.

The announcement was made by Ted Paulauskas, Director of Athletics.

Kulas replaces Joe Walejko, who resigned to pursue other opportunities. The 2005 Greyhounds posted an 4-14-0 overall record and 1-12 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.

With Kulas appointment both soccer coaches at the College are now former standout players at Southern New Hampshire. Greyhounds women's coach Neil Stafford led the Penmen to a 29-4-4 record in 1993-94.

Kulas also lists on his impressive soccer resume a year as assistant women's coach at the College under Stafford (2004)---the Greyhounds advanced to the final of the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs and the N.C.A.A. New England regional. He also spent a year as a professional player with the New Hampshire Phantoms of the USL (2002) and two years with the Seacoast United youth soccer program staff, one as head coach (2002) and one as an assistant (2001).

As a standout performer for the Penmen he started 55 of 58 games as a defender for Coach Tom Poitras helping his team advance to a pair of N.C.A.A. regional tournaments --- winning both the New England regional and the Northeast-10 Conference championship in 2000. The Penmen were ranked fifth nationally in defense in both 1999 and 2000. They posted an enviable 38-12-8 record in his career.

Kulas was also a standout in high school leading Lewis Mills High (Burlington, CT) to an undefeated Connecticut state title.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire (May 2002) earning Dean's List honors. He was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council. He is presently a candidate for a Master of Science in Organizational Behavior at the University of Hartford and expects to graduate in September.

Still single Kulas resides in Burlington, CT.
