Northeast-10 Co-Player of the Week

David Clifton, Franklin Pierce (Gr., F, London, England) - Named Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the NCAA Division II Championships. Netted the winning goal to lead Franklin Pierce to its first National Championship with a 1-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial. The goal was his ninth of the NCAA Tournament, extending his Division II record, and tenth career NCAA Tournament goal, setting a new Division II standard. Clifton scored nine of the Ravens 11 goals in the NCAA Tournament and their last eight to cap the season.

Northeast-10 Co- Player and Goalkeeper of the Week

James Thorpe, Franklin Pierce (Sr., GK, East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Names Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the NCAA Division II Championships. Didn't allow a goal over the Ravens two matches to claim his 48th & 49th career shutouts to finish just one shy of the Division II record. Made six saves in double-overtime draw with Midwestern State University, then made two stops in the penalty shootout as the Ravens advanced. Made one stop in the victory over Lincoln Memorial in the championship match.

Weekly Honor Roll:

Bisharra Ettienne, Franklin Pierce (Sr., D, East Elmhurst, N.Y.) - Earned All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Division II Championships. Key part of a defensive unit which didn't allow a goal in Franklin Pierce two matches to claim the first national championship in program history.

Frantz Francois, Franklin Pierce (Jr., M, Saint-Marc, Haiti) - Earned All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Division II Championships. Assisted on the match-winning goal in the championship match against Lincoln Memorial as the Ravens captured their first National Championship.

Michel Vitulano, Franklin Pierce (Sr., D, Montreal, Quebec) - Earned All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Division II Championships. Captained the Ravens to their first national championship as he headed up a defensive unit which didn't allow a goal in their two matches, including a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Midwestern State in the semifinal.

FRANKLIN PIERCE: Captured its first men's soccer National Championship with Sunday's 1-0 victory over #16 Lincoln Memorial. Grad student David Clifton (London, England) scored the Ravens lone goal and netted each of their last eight goals of the season to finish with an NCAA Tournament record nine this season and a record ten career NCAA Tournament markers. Senior All-America goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) posted his 48th & 49th career shutouts over the weekend to finish just one shy of the Division II record of 50 set by former Southern Connecticut State All-American Bo Oshoniyi in the early 1990's. Thorpe became the NCAA leader for all divisions for career minutes played with 8,391:11 less than six minutes into Sunday's championship, surpassing the record of 8,306 by Steve McCullough of UNC Ashville and Marquette from 1991-94. The National Title is the sixth in Franklin Pierce history, joining five women's soccer championships in the late '90's, and the first soccer title in Northeast-10 Conference history.
