Le Moyne Moves to Number One in the East Region

South Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College men’s soccer team is ranked number one in the East Region, for the first time this season, in the fifth release of NCAA Division II regional rankings. The rankings were released by the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Committee.

The Dolphins are ranked tenth nationally and are among four Northeast-10 institutions ranked in the East Region. Also in the rankings is third ranked Southern New Hampshire University, followed by Franklin Pierce University and Southern Connecticut State University, ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.

Le Moyne (15-2-2, 10-2-1 NE-10) defeated Bentley University on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship. Sophomore Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the match in the Dolphins victory. Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y.) made two saves to preserve the shutout. The Dolphins will host Franklin Pierce tomorrow in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship.

Southern New Hampshire (13-4-2, 10-1-2 NE-10), ranked 25th nationally, is coming off a setback in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship; the Penmen were defeated by Saint Anselm College on Sunday, 1-0. The Penmen are led by senior Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) who has scored 12 goals this season, seven of them being game-winners. Goalkeeper Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.) leads the Northeast-10 with a goals against average of 0.62.

Ranked fifth in the region, Franklin Pierce (12-3-3, 10-2-1 NE-10) is coming off a 0-0 tie with Assumption College, on Sunday, in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship. The Ravens advanced to the semifinal round on penalty kicks, 4-2. Four different players made their penalty kicks for the Ravens, including the team’s top two scorers, graduate student Frantz Francois (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomoreDiego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) with 21 and 16 points, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) had to make three saves in the match versus Assumption. The Ravens will travel to Le Moyne tomorrow for the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship.

Southern Connecticut (13-4-1, 9-3-1 NE-10), ranked sixth in the region, is coming off of a 2-1 victory over Merrimack College, on Sunday, in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship. Freshman Harry Appiah (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Cedric Panzu (Mons-En-Baroeul, France) each scored a goal for the Owls. Junior goalkeeper Chris Rybacki (Putnam, Conn.) made two saves in the win. Tomorrow, Southern Connecticut hosts Saint Anselm College in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship.

With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
