Falcons and Hounds Advance to NE10 Men's Tennis Semifinals

Sixth-Seeded Hounds Defeat Panthers in First Round

Assumption and Bentley advanced to the Semifinals of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships - here's how the two First Round matches played out earlier today

#6 Assumption 5, #3 Adelphi 3

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Senior Marco Leung, junior Ryan Foster and sophomore Danny Waung all went 2-0 to lead the Hounds to a 5-3 upset victory over No. 3 seed Adelphi to advance to the NE10 Semifinals for the first time since 2007.

Assumption took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Seniors Chris Waung and Leung faced Matteo Cannavera and Uladzislau Litvinchuk at No. 1 doubles and defeated them 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, D. Waung and Foster followed up with a 8-4 win over Roey Heymann and Sabin Adrian Savueluc

The Hounds went 3-2 in singles play to claim the win. Leung, Foster and D. Waung won all three of their singles matches in two sets. Foster defeated Litvinchuk at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3, while Leung claimed a 6-1, 7-5 win over Heymann. D. Waung finished the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Savueluc, which led the Hounds to the 5-3 victory.

The Hounds will travel to Merrimack on Thursday April 20, to compete in the NE10 Semifinals. 

#4 Bentley 5, #5 Le Moyne 1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley advanced to the semifinals of the NE10 Championship with a 5-1 victory over Le Moyne in the first round on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Chase Rosa and sophomores Brett Gilman and Michael Fuca each won in both singles and doubles.

The Falcons, the No. 4 seed, will face top seed Southern New Hampshire in the semifinals on Thursday in Manchester, N.H. at 2:00 pm.

Bentley led 2-1 after doubles; the wins came in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, and won all three singles matches that finished. Those came in the No. 4-No. 6 positions.

In doubles, Rosa and Dylan Granat defeated Josh Sagaille and Jason Barton 8-4 in the No. 2 match, and Fuca and Gilman got the better of James Gayvert and Tyler Underwood in the No. 3 match by an 8-2 score.

With a 2-1 lead going into singles, Bentley needed three wins to clinch the match, and got each one in straight sets.

Rosa defeated Sagaille in the No. 4 match, 6-1, 7-5. Fuca defeated Barton in the No. 5 match by a 6-3, 6-4 score, and Gilman topped Steven Procopio in the No. 6 match, 6-1, 7-5.

The Falcons have now advanced to the NE10 semifinals for the 9th straight season, and the 16th time overall. The played Southern New Hampshire just last Friday, and lost a close 5-4 match.
