Northeast-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week
Janine Enos, Bryant (Fr., SP, Wareham, MA) - Was named the Northeast-10 Tournament Most Valuable Player after pitching two complete game shutouts to help Bryant win their first ever championship. She allowed just four hits in a shutout win over UMass Lowell and held Le Moyne to just one hit in the championship game, striking out four. She had 11 strikeouts on the week, including seven in the conference tournament.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Sarah Reed, Le Moyne (Fr., P, DeWitt, NY) - Went 2-0 with one save and a 0.47 ERA in the pitcher's circle and hit .364 (8-22) with five RBI. Drove in a run and recorded the final three outs of a tournament win over Saint Michael's and registered the win in a win over UMass Lowell. Also pitched a shutout regular season win over Southern Connecticut.
Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll:
Shalynn Napolitano, Assumption (Jr., P, Lawrence, MA) - Went 2-0 in five appearances, throwing 24.1 innings (24 K) in a 3-3 week. Pitched a complete game victory over Southern New Hampshire, striking out 11 and allowing just five hits. Got the playoff clinching win over Franklin Pierce in relief, striking out three, allowing two hits in five innings worked.
Tania Palumbo, Assumption (Jr., 3B, Worcester, MA) - Batted .429 (9-21, 2 R, 2B, 10 TB, 5 RBI) and slugged .476 in a 3-3 week. Went a combined 4-for-7 (2 RBI) in the Saint Anselm doubleheader. Was 2-for-4 with three RBI, a double, and a run scored in the playoff clinching victory over Franklin Pierce.
Lindsay Connor, Bryant (So., OF, West Haven, CT) - Hit .409 for the week and hit .533 in four games at the Northeast-10 Conference tournament over the weekend. Was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the opener versus Assumption and added three more hits in the win over UMass Lowell. Had a stolen base in the win over Lowell, was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the win over Le Moyne in the championship game, giving her eight hits in four games at the tournament.
Jenna Giardina, Franklin Pierce (Fr., SS, Pittsfield, MA) - Hit .455 (5-11), including a double, a homerun and three RBI in a 0-5 week. She stole three bases and scored a pair of runs in four games played. She went 2-for-4 with a three-run inside-the-park homer versus Assumption. She also had a pair of hits versus Merrimack and recorded a hit and a run versus UMass Lowell.
Steph Simon, Merrimack (Jr., SS, Windham, NH) - Hit .579 with a home run and two RBI last week.
Jackie Burd, Pace (Sr., C, Levittown, NY) - Batted .333 (4-12) with an RBI and a run scored with two doubles. In a doubleheader against Southern New Hampshire, went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, while scoring once and driving in a run.
Angela Locsin, Pace (Sr., SP, San Martin, CA) - Posted a 0.93 ERA, allowing two earned runs in three appearances. Went 2-0 with a save. Struck out eight batters in 15 innings pitched. Against Dowling, the No. 4 team in the Northeast Region pitched a complete game six-hitter, allowing an earned run, while striking out one. Against Southern New Hampshire, struck out six in a complete game win in game 1. Pitched one inning in game two, earning the save. As a hitter, batted .429 (3-7) with a double.
Katelynn McGrath, Saint Anselm (Sr., 2B, Hudson, NH) ? Was 4-for-5 with two walks in a pair of games last week against Assumption. She was 2-for-3 in a game one loss and reached base all four times in a win while scoring the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.
Noelle Gill, Saint Michael's (Sr., C, Deep River, CT) - Batted .294 (5-17) with two home runs and three RBI in a 3-3 week. Hit consecutive home runs versus Merrimack in the opening round of the NE-10 Tournament, didn't commit an error or a passed ball in 40 chances, and struck out just once in 19 plate appearances.
Meggan Roberge, Saint Michael's (So., SP, Sheldon Springs, VT) - Went 3-2 with a 0.42 ERA in a 3-3 week. Allowed just three runs (two earned), 15 hits and three walks in 33 IP, while striking out 36. Cliched a postseason berth with a one-hit shutout versus Bryant, and threw consecutive shutouts versus Merrimack and Le Moyne in the first two games of the NE-10 Tournament. Didn't walk a batter in 26 IP in the playoffs.
Kristen Calahan, Saint Rose (Fr., SP, Lagrange, NY) - Allowed one run on four hits and fanned nine while walking one in a setback (1-0) at Southern Connecticut.
Maggie Nugent, Southern New Hampshire (Sr., SS, Hudson, NH) - Batted .375 (3-8) during a 0-3 week. Lined all three hits during a season-ending doubleheader with Pace.
Northeast-10 Weekly Notes:
BRYANT: The Bryant University softball team captured its first-ever Northeast-10 Conference championship this weekend, going 4-0 at the conference tournament. The Bulldogs will qualify for the NCAA tournament for the second-straight year. Sunday's win was the school's 29th on the season, surpassing the old mark of 28 set back in 1993. Carly Muise moved up to No. 2 all-time in school history with 169 games played. Deidre Kittredge's .428 batting average is the fourth-best single season average in school history. Her 68 hits ranks her second all-time while her 39 RBIs sets a new single-season school record. Kittredge passed the mark with a pair of RBIs vs. Assumption in the conference tournament opener. Diane Cummings stands second all-time for career wins with 26 and is second all-time with 197 career strikeouts. Janine Enos was named the Northeast-10 tournament's most outstanding player with a pair of complete game-shutouts including a one-hit performance in the championship game vs. Le Moyne?SAINT MICHAEL?S: The Purple Knights went 2-2 in their first-ever NE-10 Tournament, allowing just three runs in four contests. Sophomore Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt.), named the NE-10 Pitcher of the Year on Friday, didn't walk a batter while striking out 29 in 26 innings pitched in the playoffs. She finished the year 22-7 with a 1.00 ERA, and struck out 211 in 203.1 IP. Senior Whitney Christmas (Brattleboro, Vt.) and sophomore Casey Brooks (Colchester, Vt.) were Second Team All-Conference selections. Christmas and classmate Noelle Gill (Deep River, Conn.), the two seniors on the team, finish with more hits than any player in program history with 116 and 120, respectively. Gill also holds the school record for career home runs (20) and RBI (75), while Christmas is tops with 143 games played. Brooks broke her own single-season record with 30 runs scored, and holds the career mark with 58? MERRIMACK: Merrimack closed the season with four straight wins to earn the No. 5 seed in the Northeast-10 Tournament. Steph Simon hit .579 on the week and hit a home run against Southern Connecticut to help lead the Warriors back from an early 4-0 deficit in the first game of a must-win doubleheader. Simon finished the season with a six-game hitting streak and hit safely in 10 of Merrimack's last 11 games. The Warriors had a chance to stay alive in their first elimination game of the Northeast-10 Tournament, but stranded a season-high 12 runners in a 2-1 loss to UMass Lowell?ASSUMPTION: Assumption made its 10th trip to the Northeast-10 playoffs over the weekend, thanks to a key 8-3 win over Franklin Pierce last Wednesday night?SAINT ANSELM: Julie Pistorino (Abington, Mass./ Abington) was named to the NE-10 First Team, becoming the first Hawk selected to the first team since 2002 when the they had three players get the nod. Pistorino led the Hawks with a .321 batting average with six doubles, six triples (NE-10 best), two home runs, and 19 Runs Batted In?SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: Senior Maggie Nugent (Hudson, NH) closed out her career ranked fifth in career hits at SNHU with 95. Nugent played in 147 of a possible 148 games over the past four years and established a new school-record for career games played. Sophomore Felicia Brum (Braintree, MA) led the team in batting average for the second-straight year and closed out the season with a 14-game hitting streak. Sophomore Ashley Smith (Franklin, NH) led the team in strikeouts (69) and will enter her junior year just five Ks shy of 100 for her career, while junior Nikki Cote (Bristol, RI) will enter her senior year 10 hits shy of 100 for her career.
