Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the
Week
Ruben Sanca, UMass Lowell (Sr., Boston, Mass.) - Placed third
overall and posted the fastest time in the country in the 3,000
meters at the Dartmouth Relays. Ran the course in 8:09.05 - just
short of the school record of 8:07.57 - and helped UMass Lowell
place second in the team standings behind the host Big Green.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the
Week
Sharikka Finley-Moise, UMass Lowell (Jr., Lexington, Mass.) -
Placed eighth overall - tops among Division II-III runners - in the
60 meter dash at the Dartmouth Relays with a time of 8.27 seconds.
Also ran a 26.7-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X200 meter relay team
which took third overall (first among II-III teams) in 1:46.73.
Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the
Week
Kevin Downing, New Haven (Fr., Meriden, Conn.) - Finished in second
place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.96 in the finals at the
Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the
Week
Cachet Chesson, UMass Lowell (Fr., Randolph, Mass.) - Placed sixth
overall - second among Division II-III athletes - in the long jump
with a distance of 16' 5.25''. Also ran a leg on UMass Lowell's
4X200 'B' team which placed eighth overall (third) in 1:50.03 and
advanced to the semifinal round of the 60 meter dash with a time of
8.08 seconds (seventh/second) in the preliminary and 8.11 in the
semifinal (11th/second).
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the
Week
Cory Murray, UMass Lowell (So., Methuen, Mass.) - Placed fourth
overall and tops among collegiate throwers in the shot put at the
Dartmouth Relays with a distance of 48' 2.5''.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the
Week
Jacqui Barrett, UMass Lowell (Jr., Woburn, Mass.) - Placed second
overall and tops among collegiate athletes in the shot put at the
Dartmouth Relays. Threw for a season-best 45' 0.5'' and enhanced
her NCAA Championship qualification to fourth on the Division II
list.
Northeast-10 Co-Men’s Field Freshman of the
Week
Shadedi Ali, UMass Lowell (Fr., Stoneham, Mass.) - Captured the
high jump at the Dartmouth Relays, clearing 6' 8.0'' and led UMass
Lowell to second place in the team standings.
Stenson Jean-Baptiste, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Stratford, Conn.)
- Placed first in the long jump at the Yale Classic with a leap of
6.90 meters.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the
Week
Bidemi Balogun, American International (Fr., Providence, R.I.) -
Placed eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.86 meters
at the 27th Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Allen Bush, American International (So., Newark, N.J.) - Placed
fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.65 meters at the Yale
Intercollegiate Track Classic.
Alex Joseph, American International (So., New Britain, Conn.) -
Placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 6.47 meters at the
Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic.
Matt Blazon, UMass Lowell (So., Lowell, Mass.) - Sole Division
II-III athlete in the Dartmouth Relays Heptathlon, placed fourth
with 4,346 points. Placed among the top five (out of 10) in four of
the seven events: first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.91), third in
the 1,000 meters (2:46.99), fourth in the pole vault (11' 5.75'')
and fifth in the shot put (32' 5.0'').
Donte Brown, UMass Lowell (So., Brockton, Mass.) - Placed second
overall and first among U.S. collegiate runners in the 400 meter
dash with a time of 49.08 at the Dartmouth Relays. Provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Championship.
Haley Catarius, UMass Lowell (Jr., Marshfield, Mass.) - Placed
seventh overall and tops among Division II-III athletes in the 800
meters at the Dartmouth Relays with a time of 2:19.50. Also ran a
59.4-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which
placed fifth overall (first among II-III teams) with a time of
4:10.71.
Charles Karam, Saint Rose (Fr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) - Contributed a
third place finish in the 400-meter dash at the Crowell Open.
Completed the race in 52.51.
Pat Cullen, Saint Rose (Gr., Hyde Park, N.Y.) - Broke the tape
first in the 5,000-meter run and in the process established a
school record with a winning time of 15:12.51 to lead the Saint
Rose men at the Crowell Open.
Bethany Norris, Saint Rose (Fr., Guilford, N.Y.) - Contributed a
top-five finish for Saint Rose at the Crowell Open. Took fourth in
the 400-meter dash with a 1:05.51 clocking.
Joanne Smith, Saint Rose (Sr., Monroe, N.Y.) - Recorded the lone
first place finish for Saint Rose at the Crowell Open. Won the
5,000-meter run after crossing the line in 20:38.83.
Diwani Augustine, Southern Connecticut (Jr., East Hartford, Conn.)
- Finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.32 meters
and took ninth in the long jump with a leap 6.44 meters at the Yale
Classic.
Laura Brustolon, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Mystic, Conn.) - Won
the 3000 meter run at the Yale Classic with a time of 10:27.78.
McNeil Johnson, Southern Connecticut (Sr., East Hartford, Conn.) -
Claimed first place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.12
seconds at the Yale Classic.
Sasha Mathelier, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Freeport, N.Y.) - Ttook
first place in the pole vault with a leap of 3.50 meters at the
Yale Classic.
Nana Ocran, Southern Connecticut (So., Manchester, Conn.) - Took
first place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.89 seconds at the
Yale Classic.
Yvonne Perkins, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Danbury, Conn.) - Placed
third in the weight throw at the Yale Classic with a toss of 15.25
meters and sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.48 meters at
the Yale Classic.
Joseph Poulsen, Southern Connecticut (So., Oxford, Conn.) - Won the
3,000 meter run with a time of 8:31.52 at the Yale Classic.
