Six Northeast-10 Athletes Named to the 2008 AVCA All-East Region Team

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)has announced the 2008 All-East Region Team. This year's team includes six Northeast-10 athletes, highlighted by NE-10 Player of the Year Rhe-Ann Niles and Setter of the Year Yael Rosner from the University of New Haven. In addition, New Haven head coach Robin Salters was named the East Region Coach of the Year.

All-East Region honorees include Bentley University senior libero Tori Piskulick and junior outside hitter Alex Kearney, Merrimack College sophomore right-side hitter Molly Cindric and New Haven's Niles, senior outside hitter Charisse Cotton and senior setter Yael Rosner.

Piskulick and Kearney helped lead the Falcons to the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II East Regional.  Kearney, an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection, finished the season with 2.75 kills and 2.59 digs per set along with 40 total blocks.  Piskulick closed out her collegiate career with 5.61 assists per set and averaged 1.85 digs. She was also named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team.

Cindric finished her sophomore season currently tied in the Northeast-10 with 3.4 kills per set and helped lead the Warriors to their second straight appearance to the Northeast-10 Championship final.  Merrimack would also earn its second-straight bid to the NCAA Division II East Regional.  Cindric concluded the year with a .240 hitting percentage and averaged 2.7 digs and had 58 total blocks.  She was also an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection.

The New Haven trio helped lead the Chargers to their first ever Northeast-10 Championship after going a perfect 14-0 in conference play.  Cotton is currently tied for first in the NE-10 in kills per game with a 3.4 average and has recorded 59 total blocks.  She was also an All-Northeast-10 First team selection.  Niles, the NE-10 Player of the Year and All-Northeast-10 First Team selection, is currenlty the leader in hitting percentage (.476) and blocks per set (1.24) and is third in kills with an average of 3.3 per set.  Rosner, the NE-10 Setter of the Year and an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection, is currently averaging 1.38 kills and 2.16 digs per set. She leads the Northeast-10 with 10.26 assists per set and has recorded 41 total blocks.

Salter helped guide the Chargers to a perfect 14-0 conference record to claim the team's first-ever Northeast-10 Regular Season title in their inagural season in the NE-10. New Haven would go on to win the Northeast-10 championship and advance to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 2002 after winning the East Region.

Also listed among the honorees in the honorable mention were Bentley's Cassie Kraft and Kristine Mickelson, Merrimack's Ale Kuncaitis and New Haven's Katrina Ali.

With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
