WALTHAM, Mass. – Carissa Medeiros, a former player and
assistant coach at Stonehill, has been named head women’s
lacrosse coach at Bentley, athletics director Bob DeFelice
announced today.
“My first reaction meeting Carissa was that I’ve never
been so impressed with a person and the recommendations that
followed her justify that,” DeFelice said. “We’re
thrilled to be able to get someone with her background and ability
to lead our women’s lacrosse program.”
Medeiros, 26, spent three years as an assistant coach at her alma
mater from 2004-06, helping the Skyhawks win three straight
Northeast-10 Conference championships and the NCAA Division II
national championship in 2005.
In her playing days, Medeiros was an All-America goalkeeper at
Stonehill, earning Goalie of the Year honors from the
Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association after
her senior season. That year, she led the team to its first NCAA
Division II national championship after earning MVP honors in the
NE-10 Tournament.
Medeiros graduated cum laude from Stonehill in 2003 where she
majored in psychology with a minor concentration in criminal
justice and went on to earn a Masters degree in general psychology
from Boston University in 2005. A native of New Bedford, Medeiros
currently resides in Quincy.
