South Easton, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose has received the top seed for the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament, presented by Select Sport America.
The Golden Knights topped the Ravens of Franklin Pierce College, who had previously claimed the last five consecutive regular season titles, in the 2006 Northeast-10 Regular Season to win their first-ever regular season championship with a 12-1-1 NE-10 mark and finished the regular season 15-1-1 overall.
The Quarterfinal round kicks off Tuesday, October 24. In quarterfinal action, the No. 1 seed Saint Rose host eighth seeded Le Moyne College (8-7-1, 6-7-1 NE-10) at 3:30 p.m. #2 seed Franklin Pierce (14-2, 12-2 NE-10) hosts #7 Stonehill College (6-5-4, 5-5-4 NE-10) at 4:00 p.m., #3 The University of Massachusetts Lowell (10-4-3, 10-3-1 NE-10) hosts #6 Saint Anselm College (9-6-3, 6-5-3 NE-10) at 7:00 p.m., and #4 Bryant University (13-6-1, 9-4-1 NE-10) hosts #5 Merrimack College (13-4-1, 9-4-1 NE-10) at 2 p.m.
The semifinal round will take place Friday, October 27 at the higher remaining seeds while the highest remaining seed will host the championship game Sunday, October 29.
NOTES: Saint Rose has claimed its first-ever Northeast-10 Regular Season title since joining the league seven seasons ago. The Golden Knights have a 5-6 post season record and have advanced to the finals five times. Franklin Pierce enters the tournament as the #2 seed and is defending its streak of five straight championships. The Ravens have won every NE-10 tournament match since joining the league in 2000. UMass Lowell was the #3 seed in the 2005 tournament. The River Hawks are making their third post season appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference. Bryant edged Merrimack in the regular season due to the Bulldogs 2-1 win over the Warriors on October 20. The Bulldogs, now entering their eighth post season, recorded their best tournament performance was in 1985 when the team garnered runner-up honors at the NE-10 tournament. Merrimack sports the highest number of wins in Northeast-10 Women’s Soccer tournament play with 21. The Warriors have collected eight runner-up honors in the NE-10 tournament and five titles, one of which that they split with Springfield in 1989. Saint Anselm returns to the tournament for the first time since 1999. The Hawks have an overall post season record of 6-14 and have won one title, which came in 1991. Stonehill qualified for its first appearance in the league championships in five years. The Skyhawks are the owners of two NE-10 Tournament titles, which came in 1993 and 1995. Le Moyne enters the tournament for the first time since the 2000 season.
