Weekly Notes:
FRANKLIN PIERCE: Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 2 in
the NSCAA/adidas Division II preseason poll, saw its shutout
minutes halted at 864:26 after conceding a late penalty kick in its
season-opening win over Holy Family. The Ravens had closed out the
2007 season with eight-straight shutouts (all in postseason play).
Sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden), who
missed the entire 2007 postseason due to injury, returned to the
Ravens lineup in style by breaking a program record and matching
another in the win. She scored two goals in a 32-second span within
the 71st minute to break the record of 36-seconds set by Franklin
Pierce Hall of Famer Pauliina Miettinen against UMass Lowell in
1995. The two Johansson markers capped a program record matching
five-goal outburst for the 2007 NE-10 Freshman of the Year,
becoming the sixth Raven in program history to accomplish the feat.
