Six Northeast-10 Teams Ranked in East Region Poll

South Easton, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team is ranked first in the East Region, for the third consecutive week, in the third release of the NCAA Division II regional rankings. The rankings were released by the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Committee.

The Golden Knights are ranked second in the nation for the third consecutive week and are among six Northeast-10 institutions ranked in the East Region, including the top four spots. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is second, followed by Franklin Pierce University ranked third, and Adelphi University, ranked fourth. Merrimack College and Le Moyne College are ranked eighth and tenth, respectively.

Saint Rose (16-0-0, 13-0-0 NE-10) remains undefeated after defeating Pace, 7-0, last night. The Golden Knights had seven different players score in the victory, including one of the team’s leading scorers, Gianna D’Errico (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Senior goalkeeper Shannon Murphy (Charlton, Mass.) recorded one save in the win. Saint Rose will host the River Hawks of UMass-Lowell this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Ranked 15th nationally, UMass-Lowell (11-2-3, 10-1-2 NE-10) is coming off a 3-0 win against Southern Connecticut last night. The River Hawks are lead by freshman Taylor Hartmann (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and junior Brianne Bozzella (Wilmington, Mass.) have scored seven and six goals, respectively, thus far this season. Against Southern Connecticut, senior goalkeeper Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, Mass.) had to make two saves in order to preserve the shutout. Gillis ranks second in the conference in goals against average (0.30) and save percentage (.922). UMass-Lowell will travel to Saint Rose on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.

Franklin Pierce (13-3-1, 11-2-1 NE-10) defeated Saint Anselm last night, 1-0, as sophomore Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the game. Northeast-10 Player of the Week, senior Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil) is leading the conference, as well as the nation, in points (58), points per game (3.62), goals (26), and goals per game (1.62). Sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made three saves in the win over Saint Anselm. The Ravens will face Assumption College, Saturday, at 1 p.m.

Adelphi (8-5-2, 6-5-2 NE-10), ranked fourth in the region, was defeated by the University of New Haven last night, 4-3, in an overtime game. Junior Emily Dunne (Fairfield, Conn.) scored twice for the Panthers in the setback and leads the team in goals scored this season with five. Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, sophomore Dorothy Connolly (Bethpage, N.Y.) made six saves against the Chargers. Adelphi returns to action Saturday, at 12 p.m., when they host Bentley University.

Ranked eighth in the region, Merrimack (11-4-2, 8-4-1 NE-10) is coming off a 2-1 victory against Saint Michael’s College last night. Junior Kerri Domohowski (Saugus, Mass.) scored both goals in the Warriors’ win. Senior goalkeeper Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton, Conn.) made eight saves in the match versus Saint Michael’s and ranks fourth in the conference in goals against average (0.79) and save percentage (.867). Saturday, Merrimack will host Pace University at 4 p.m.

Le Moyne (9-5-2, 6-5-2 NE-10), ranked tenth in the region, is coming off a 3-1 setback against Merrimack College last Saturday. Sophomore Rachel Farneti (Marcellus, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Dolphins. Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Stevens (Camillus, N.Y.) made two saves versus the Warriors on Saturday and currently averages over five saves per game. The Dolphins play a non-conference game at 3 p.m. this afternoon, versus Roberts Wesleyan.

With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
