Saint Rose Ranked Number One in East Region

South Easton, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose women’s
soccer team is ranked first in the East Region, for the fourth
consecutive week, in the fourth release of the NCAA Division II
regional rankings. The rankings were released by the NCAA Division
II Women’s Soccer Committee.
The Golden Knights are ranked second in the nation for the fourth
consecutive week and are among six Northeast-10 institutions ranked
in the East Region. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is
ranked third, followed by Franklin Pierce University and Adelphi
University, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Merrimack
College is ranked seventh, while Stonehill College is ranked
tenth.
Saint Rose (18-0-0, 15-0-0 NE-10) finished the regular season
undefeated by defeating Le Moyne, 3-0, yesterday. The Golden
Knights had three different players score for them; including
Junior Amanda Deck (Cicero, N.Y.), who also had two assists in the
game. Goalkeepers Susan Cowan (West Boylston, Mass.) and Shannon
Murphy (Charlton, Mass.) each recorded one save in the win. On
Sunday, Saint Rose will host the number eight seed in the
quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship.
UMass-Lowell (11-4-3, 10-3-2 NE-10), ranked 23rd in the nation, is
coming off a 1-0 setback against Merrimack College yesterday. The
River Hawks are led by freshman Taylor Hartmann (Feeding Hills,
Mass.) and junior Brianne Bozzella (Wilmington, Mass.), who have
scored seven and six goals, respectively, thus far this season.
Against Merrimack, senior goalkeeper Jamie Gillis (North Billerica,
Mass.) made one save. UMass-Lowell will host Stonehill College, the
number six seed, in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10
Championship on Sunday.
Ranked 22nd nationally, Franklin Pierce (14-3-1, 12-2-1 NE-10)
defeated Assumption last Saturday, 3-1. Three different players
scored for the Ravens, including the conference and team’s
leading scorer, Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil). Freshman
goalkeeper Casey Edward (Marshfield, Mass.) made two saves in the
win. The Ravens will host the number seven seed on Sunday, in the
quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship.
Adelphi (10-5-2, 8-5-2 NE-10), ranked fifth in the region, defeated
Southern Connecticut, 1-0, yesterday. Freshman Meghan Carey
(Levittown, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Panthers, while
sophomore goalkeeper Dorothy Connolly (Bethpage, N.Y.) made six
saves to preserve the shutout. Adelphi returns to action Sunday,
when they travel to Merrimack for the quarterfinals of the
Northeast-10 Championship.
Ranked seventh in the region, Merrimack (13-4-2, 10-4-1 NE-10) is
coming off a 1-0 victory against UMass-Lowell. Sophomore Khara
Roman (Orange, Conn.) scored the lone goal in the Warriors’
win, while senior goalkeeper Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton,
Conn.) made six saves in the match. Sunday, Merrimack will host
Adelphi University in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10
Championship.
Stonehill (10-7-1, 8-6-1 NE-10), ranked tenth in the region, is
coming off a 1-1 tie with Saint Michael’s College. The
Skyhawks leading scorer, junior Kirstie St. Martin (Providence,
R.I.) scored Stonehill’s goal. The Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of
the Week, sophomore Sarah Hickey, (Lee, Mass.), made six saves
versus the Purple Knights. The Skyhawks will travel to UMass-Lowell
on Sunday for the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10
Championship.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction
of being the largest Division II conference in the country along
with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide
athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest
such program of any Division II conference.
