MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Thomas McLarnon posted a 30-save shutout on Wednesday afternoon to propel No. 4-seeded and reigning league champion Assumption to a 3-0 victory over No. 5-seeded Post at the New England Sports Center in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Championship.
Originally scheduled for Tuesday night but postponed due to travel logistics, Assumption did not miss a beat. Dean Simeone got the scoring started on a power play in the first period, off an assist from Patrick McKiernan, to give the Greyhounds an early lead in the eighth minute - a lead it would not relinquish.
Daniel Lemanski and Sean Donoghue added goals in the third period to give Assumption some insurance, with assists from Ronny Paragallo, Leo Piandes, Declan Chapman and Thomas McGaffigan.
McLarnon made 11 saves in the third period to defend Assumption's lead, outdueling Post goaltender Benjamin Cunneen who finished with 32 saves.
Paragallo (17-of-21) and Ryan Decker (18-of-26) led Assumption in faceoff win percentage.
Assumption will play top-seeded Saint Anselm on Saturday in the semifinal round of the NE10 Ice Hockey Championship. Puck drop is at 4 p.m. at Sullivan Arena and the game will be broadcast on NE10 NOW on FloSports.
