MANSFIELD, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship started on Saturday with semifinal matches at the U.S. National Tennis Center, as the two top seeds - Adelphi and Franklin Pierce - earned victories to advance to Sunday's final.
Adelphi, the top seed and Championship host, defeated No. 4 Assumption by a 4-0 margin, while Franklin Pierce held off No. 3 Southern New Hampshire, 4-3. It sets up the first-ever Championship match between the Panthers and Ravens.
The Championship match is set for Sunday at 12 p.m. at the U.S. National Tennis Center.
No. 1 Adelphi 4, No. 4 Assumption 0 - Box Score
FLUSHING, N.Y. — Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the No. 1 seeded Adelphi men's tennis team began their journey for back-to-back Northeast-10 titles on Saturday morning when they took on No. 4 Assumption.
The Panthers got off to a fast start in the doubles portion of the match with NE10 Player of the Year Marko Jovanovic and First Team selection Spyridon Papageorgiou dominating their No. 2 counterparts, 6-1. Reece Farrow and Hugo Munoz Reinoso quickly dispatched their No. 1 pairing opponents, 6-2, to earn the Panthers the first point of the match.
Papageorgiou kept momentum going into his singles match, only losing two games in his 6-0, 6-4 victory.
All-NE10 first team selection Rodrigo Ochoa was dominant in the No. 6 singles match, earning a 6-2, 6-1 win and put the pressure on the Greyhounds.
Louca Bertone fought through the first set in his No. 2 match and earned the Panthers a 4-0 sweep after taking his match 7-5, 6-2.
Adelphi will return to the court tomorrow at noon for the NE10 Finals.

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The second-seeded Franklin Pierce men's tennis team came through in a high-stakes battle on Saturday afternoon, taking down third-seeded Southern New Hampshire, 4-3, in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. With the match tied 3-3, senior Ralph Hiebel delivered the match-clinching point at No. 3 singles at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ravens set the tone early by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Ralph Hiebel and Alejandro Ortiz claimed a 6-4 win at #2 doubles, while the duo of Orlando Guerrero and Hugo Diaz Avila secured a 6-3 victory at #3 to lock in the early 1-0 advantage. SNHU took the top flight, as Joe Herin and Noe Martin fell 6-1.
- In singles, Franklin Pierce earned wins at No. 2, 3, and 6 to secure the match. Martin bounced back in a gritty three-setter at #2 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Hiebel delivered under pressure at #3, coming from behind to earn a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory and seal the semifinal win. Diaz Avila added a crucial point at #6 singles with a composed 7-5, 6-4 win.
- SNHU responded with points at the top flight and in the middle of the lineup. Herin dropped a tough match at #1 singles, 4-6, 4-6, while Ortiz and Guerrero were defeated in straight sets at #4 and #5, respectively.
- With the match hanging in the balance, Hiebel's dominant final two sets lifted the Ravens into the championship round.
NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce will face top-seeded Adelphi University in the Northeast-10 Championship Final on Sunday, May 4. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
