Adelphi's Bertone Wins Vern Cox Player of the Year

Grad Student Caps Best Season on Long Island

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Louca Bertone placed a keystone atop his Adelphi career, grabing the Vern Cox Player of the Year award, announced by the Northeast 10 office Wednesday.  Bertone, as the top No. 1 singles player in the league, is awarded Player of the Year.  He secured the honor with a head-to-head victory over SNHU's Vicente Preto.

Starting his career at Division I Alabama State, the France-native came to DII through a stint at Limestone (where he was the South Atlantic Conference's Elite 23-24 winner).  He arrived on Long Island in 2024 and was named All-NE10 second team a season ago.  Bertone split duties on the No. 1 line with Viktor Hockl this year, with each man playing five of the team's 10 conference matches at No. 1 and No. 2.  Bertone was undefeated in his five top-line matches and finished 9-1 in league play.

Bertone is the fourth straight Panther to win Player of the Year, following a three-year run by Marko Jovanovic.  The league's top individual award is named for the legendary Springfield College coach, Vern Cox.  The Pride were a charter member of the NE10.

This spring's Rookie of the Year is awarded to Bentley's Dante Massetta, who played across the top three singles lines for the Falcons, helping lead Bentley to the NE10 Championship semifinals after a winless 2024-2025 conference season.  Massetta played his best as the No. 2 singles player for Bentley and split time at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Bentley also captured the NE10's Coach of the Year, awarded to Courtney Gilman in his second season with the Falcons.
