Adelphi Sweeps NE10 Postseason Cups

Panthers Put Together Superb Spring to Win Presidents, Founders and Pioneers Cups

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - For the third consecutive season, the Adelphi Panthers and Bentley Falcons finished 1-2 in the race for the Northeast 10 Presidents Cup, recognizing all-around on-field excellence among conference schools.  Adelphi used an elite spring - finishing fifth in the Learfield Director's Cup standings for the season - to close out all three trophies at the league level.

The Panthers captured NE10 regular season and postseason championships in both men's and women's lacrosse along with men's and women's tennis this spring.  Those teams put up fine showings in the NCAA Championships as well, with men's lacrosse reaching the national championship and women's tennis the final 16.  AU earned 85% of its maximum allowable points during the spring and 92% of the available points in women's sports (toward the Pioneers Cup).

Bentley did the best in the fall, ranking No. 1 in the conference after the first season.  The Falcons carried that success into the winter with a second-place finish, landing 16 points behind AU in the overall standings for the Presidents Cup.  Southern Connecticut was the best team in winter, racking up 79% of their available points -- headlined by championships in women's swimming and diving and both men's and women's indoor track and field.  The Owls also won their first women's basketball title since 2007.

The SCSU success was actually the best single season (fall/winter/spring) in the conference.  The Owls won 26 of 27 available women's points in the winter, placing the department second in the Pioneers Cup Standings.

In the Founders Cup race (men's sports), Adelphi had both the best winter and spring.  Franklin Pierce put forth the best fall, winning a league-besst 25 points on the back of a men's soccer championship for the fourth time in five years and a runner-up finish in men's cross country.
