Franklin Pierce's Georgieva Highlights Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors

First Player Since 2013 to Win Player and Rookie of the Year

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Franklin Pierce's Polina Georgieva had a freshman season to remember, as she was named Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Year when the league office announced its All-Conference honors for women's tennis on Thursday afternoon.

Georgieva is the first player since Merrimack's Grace Messina in 2013 to earn both honors in the same season. Overall, she becomes just the fifth player in league history to accomplish the feat. Georgieva went 7-0 at No. 1 singles this season, including a win over previously-unbeaten Irene Garbo of Saint Anselm in the final regular season match.

New Haven's Chris Raffone was named the NE10 Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to their first outright, and second-straight overall, regular season title in program history with an 8-0 record in league play. New Haven also captured the top seed in the NE10 Championship for the first time.

Following its unbeaten season in league play, New Haven had the most All-Conference players (7) and selections (10) - including seven players earning First Team honors. The Chargers were led by Laura Ortner, who was named First Team at both No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Adelphi was second among NE10 programs with six players earning eight selections, led by Zuzanna Witkowska at First Team No. 2 singles and Second Team No. 1 doubles. Assumption also had six players recognized who earned six selections, highlighted by Caroline Mader at Second Team No. 2 singles and Third Team No. 1 doubles.

New Haven's trio of Ortner, Leni Bischof and Victoria Togores was named to the All-Rookie Team after all three earned First Team All-Conference honors. Overall, eight players were named All-Rookie.
