NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - After going 11-0 on the No. 1 line this season for Adelphi, senior Katarina Liedbeck was named Vern Cox Player of the Year by the Northeast 10.
Liedbeck is the first Adelphi Player of the Year since Barbie Quagliardi in 2019 and joins her coach, Rebecca Fakas (2017), as the three Panthers to win the honor. Four AU singles players earned all-conference first team honors and all six regular starters earned either first- or second-team slots. Adelphi also swept all three spots on the first team all-conference doubles roster.
Liedbeck finished the Adelphi awards sweep by capturing the NE10 Elite 24 Award for the third straight season as the student-athlete with the top GPA that competes at the championship site (final four teams).
While Liedbeck is a senior, youth also reigned on the all-conference lists. Each of the six all-rookie performers were also all-conference finishers, automatically placing them on the all-rookie squad and eliminating the need for coaches to vote for the honor.
All-conference teams are selected based on player's overall records, with their flight placement dependant on playing at least 50% of their conference matches on that line. Coach and Rookie of the Year are determined by a vote amongst the league's head coaches. The Vern Cox Player of the Year trophy is awarded to the top No. 1 singles player in the conference and named for the legendary Springfield College coach. Springfield was a charter member of the NE10.
