South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced the recipients of the Northeast-10 Team Academic Excellence Awards for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Team Academic Excellence Awards honor the teams with the highest grade point average in each of the conference's sponsored sports.
As a whole, the conference had an impressive 165 teams (out of a total of 284), or 58.1 percent, which achieved a grade point average of over 3.0. Nine different institutions were represented with at least one team to receive this honor. Bentley University led the way with seven teams receiving the award, followed by Adelphi University, which had four. The College of Saint Rose finished third with regards to academic team awards, as the Golden Knights had three teams honored.
Bentley had 20 of their 22 Northeast-10 sponsored sports post a team GPA of over 3.0. The men's cross country team led the way for the Falcons with an average GPA of 3.410, followed by the men's outdoor track team with a 3.400. Bentley also finished with the top GPA in men's soccer (3.250), football (3.000), men's swimming (3.130), men's indoor track and field (3.400), and men's lacrosse (3.180).
Leading the conference's 284 teams altogether was the Adelphi women's field hockey team, which accomplished a team GPA of 3.645. Just behind them was the Panthers' volleyball team with a GPA of 3.598. Adelphi also had a total of 17 of its 20 Notheast-10 sponsored sports reach a team GPA above 3.0
Recording the highest GPA overall for the men's teams was the golf team from Pace University, who led the way with a team average GPA of 3.500.
The only Northeast-10 sponsored sport's team to capture a conference crown and receive the Team Academic Excellence Award was the men's ice hockey team from Saint Michael's College. The Purple Knights achieved a team GPA of 3.089, along with a regular season championship.
Other sports winners were: Adelphi's men's tennis (3.387) and softball (3.480), Assumption College's women's indoor track and field (3.372) and women's outdoor track and field (3.450), Franklin Pierce University's women's basketball (3.448), Saint Michael's men's basketball (3.016), Saint Rose's women's cross country (3.454), women's swimming and diving (3.417), and women's tennis (3.446), and Stonehill College's women's soccer (3.452) and baseball (2.971).
