Northeast-10 Conference Announces 2012-13 Team Academic Excellence Awards

Nearly 63 percent of all Northeast-10 teams post 3.0 GPA or higher

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference is pleased to announce its Team Academic Excellence winners for the 2012-13 academic year, the league office announced on Monday morning. Twelve of the 16 member institutions have at least one winner.
 

Northeast-10 Team Academic Excellence recognition goes to the team in each of the conference’s 23 varsity sports that achieves the highest team grade point average throughout the academic year.

Adelphi University, Bentley University, Franklin Pierce University, Pace University and Southern New Hampshire University earned three Team Excellence awards apiece, while American International College and The College of Saint Rose had two winners.


Overall, 62.9 percent of all Northeast-10 teams across all 23 sports posted collective GPAs of 3.0 or higher, which is up nearly six percent from the 2011-12 academic year.


The Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country team posted the highest team GPA within the conference with an average of 3.760. It was one of four Team Excellence winners to post collective GPA averages of 3.50 or higher.
 

Bentley saw 20 of its 22 varsity programs post GPAs of 3.0 or higher, while Adelphi, the 2013 Northeast-10 Presidents’ Cup recipient, had 18 of its 20 teams reach the same benchmark.


Three 2012-13 Northeast-10 Team Excellence winners also claimed conference championships this past year: Adelphi golf, Adelphi softball and So. New Hampshire men’s soccer.


Four sports across the Northeast-10 saw all of its programs post GPAs of 3.0 or higher in 2012-13. They were women’s cross country, women’s swimming & diving, women’s indoor track & field and women’s outdoor track & field.
 

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
