SNHU Leads the Field After First Day of Men's Golf Championship

Surprenant and Rollins Help Penmen to Eight-Stroke Advantage.

CANDIA, N.H. - Behind the duo of Andrew Surprenant and Evan Rollins, Southern New Hampshire holds an eight-stroke lead after the first day of competition at the Northeast 10 Conference Men's Golf Championship at Candia Woods Golf Links. 

Southern New Hampshire, the reigning NE10 champion, shot six-over (574) through 36 holes on Wednesday, highlighted by a two-under (140) for Surprenant and one-under (141) for Rollins - who sit in first and second place among all golfers, respectively. Surprenant tied Saint Anselm's Brady Warren for the best 18-hole score of the day at two-under (69), which he achieved in the first round. 

Adelphi is in second place at 14-over (582), behind the efforts of Mitchell Archer - the reigning Gordon McCullough Memorial Award recipient - and Zeus Sara, who are both tied for third on the individual leaderboard at three-over (145). 

Assumption is in third at 28-over (596), Saint Anselm is fourth at 34-over (602), Franklin Pierce is fifth at 38-over (606), Bentley is sixth at 39-over (607) and American International is seventh at 48-over (616). 

Both Southern New Hampshire and Adelphi had three golfers each that finished in the Top 10 of Wednesday's leaderboard. Assumption's Chris Stilwell and Saint Anselm's Warren also shot three-over and are tied with Archer and Sara for third place. 

Southern New Hampshire will look to repeat as NE10 champion on Thursday and win its sixth conference title. Day 2 action, which will consist of 18 holes, begins with tee times at 8:30 a.m.
