MANSFIELD, Mass. - Pace graduate guard Tray Alexander was named the East Region Player of the Year, as the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced its All-Region men's basketball honors on Friday. Alexander highlights a group of five players from the Northeast-10 Conference to earn All-Region status.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) also released its All-District teams, with five NE10 players earning recognition.
Alexander, the NE10 Player of the Year, helped Pace reach the NE10 Men's Basketball Championship final for the first time in program history last Saturday. He has averaged 16.4 points, 8.6 assists and 2.9 steals per game this season. Alexander ranks second in all of Division II in assists (267), assists per game (8.6), steals (91) and steals per game (2.9). He was also a selection on the All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team.
Bentley's Cash McClure and Southern Connecticut's Antonio Chandler earned First Team All-Region and Second Team All-District honors. McClure ranked in the Top 10 of all NE10 players in scoring (16.4 points per game) and assists (3.6 per game), while Chandler averaged a double-double of 17.2 points and 11.3 rebounds - which was good for fifth in scoring and second in rebounding in the conference.
A pair of other NE10 players - Adelphi's Dayshaun Walton and Southern Connecticut's Albert Vargas - earned Second Team All-Region honors. Walton, a First Team All-District selection, helped Adelphi to the NE10 regular season title and the No. 2 seed in the East Regional. Vargas averaged 17.5 points per game, ranking fourth in the NE10, along with 5.6 assists per game, second-most behind Alexander. Both players were First Team All-Conference selections.
Southern New Hampshire's Paul Greene was a Second Team All-District selection after helping the Penmen to successfully defend its NE10 title this season. Greene averaged a double-double of 13.8 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.
Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two All-Region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later this month.
The Division II CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.
