NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The best lacrosse league in the country earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA DII field Sunday night while also having a pair of teams crack the bracket for the first time. Reigning national champion Adelphi is the No. 1 seed in the North Region after going 16-0, winning the NE10 regular season and postseason titles and holding the No. 1 national ranking wire-to-wire. Assumption and Saint Michael's join Pace and Saint Anselm as NE10 teams in the NCAA field.
Adelphi draws CACC champion Wilmington in the opening round and, should it advance, would earn one of two rematches. No. 4 Pace and No. 5 Seton Hill draw the other side of the pod. Both the Setter and Panthers toppled the Griffins this year for their best non-conference wins of the spring.
The Saint Stick is up for grabs on the bottom of the bracket where rivals Saint Anselm and Saint Michael's meet. Saint A's won the regular season meeting between the squads, 13-11.
The winner of that duo meets the winner of No. 3 Molloy and No. 6 Assumption. After making the NE10 Championship semifinals for the first time, the Greyhounds now make the NCAA Championship for the first time, touting one of the nation's best keepers in Shane Corcoran and the NE10 Offensive Player of the Year in Boomer Staunton.
NCAA Championship action begins with the opneing round (South Region only) on Wednesay. The tournament's first round begins Sunday, May 10th with the quarters and semis following on May 13th and 17th. The NCAA DII national champion will be decided when the North Region and South Region champions meet in Charlottesville, Va. on May 24th at Scott Stadium on the grounds of the University of Virginia.
Adelphi enters the bracket looking for history. No DII men's lacrosse team has ever won three consecutive titles. Back-to-back title winners are 0-3 after making it back to a third straight national final and back-to-back winners are 0-7 in efforts for a three-peat overall. Adelphi has tried twice before, in 1994 and 2000. The last attempt came from Merrimack in 2019. The Warriors departed for DI after the season and never attempted a third straight.
The tournament field is 18 teams large this spring and all games will be broadcast, free of charge, on
NCAA Champs Pass.
