WORCESTER, Mass.—Assumption University senior softball outfielder, Kaylee Lacomb, drove in two runs, including a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Greyhounds eliminated Pace University, 2-1, in the Northeast 10 Conference First Round, Tuesday afternoon at Normand R. Marois '57 Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a 1-2-3 top of the first, Assumption had its offense jump-started with Kaitlyn Cahill leading off the bottom of the first with a triple to right-center field. She would score one batter later, with Kaylee Lacomb driving her in with a sacrifice bunt. The Greyhounds would threaten in the bottom of the third, as they would get two runners in scoring position with just one out in the inning. Pace would escape the jam as they would get a force out at the plate and a ground out to keep the score 1-0. 
 
The Setters would eventually tie the game in the top of the fourth, as they got a one-out walk, before Madison Picerno tripled to right center, scoring Riley Jenkins on the play. Lacomb would next come to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, as she launched a leadoff solo home run over the left field fence, putting the Blue and White in front, 2-1. Pace would get one more chance to tie the game at the top of the seventh, as they would get a one-out single by Ava Edmond before Kaelin Waldron got a foul out and a flyout to end the game, and send Assumption to the NE10 Semifinals. 
 
Waldron pitched the complete game in 99 pitches, as she scattered six hits and struck out four. Kaitlyn Cahill was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases.

Adelphi 9, Bentley 1

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University softball team defeated Bentley University, 9-1, on Tuesday afternoon and will now look ahead to the Northeast 1- Conference championship weekend.

Highlights:
  • Emma Priest went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, while scoring three times and driving in a run.
  • Tori Parente also tallied three hits, scoring once and driving in one.
  • Makayla Comer and Kaitlyn Klepper each recorded a hit and two RBIs.
  • Faith Wagner and Ellen Tarjan each added a hit and an RBI, while Tarjan scored twice.
  • Plue struck out seven over six innings to earn her 18th win of the season.
How it Happened:
  • Adelphi struck first in its opening at-bat. After Priest led off with a double to left field, she advanced on a sacrifice bunt and later scored on a defensive error.
  • Two innings later, the Panthers broke the game open with a five-run rally. Priest once again ignited the offense with a triple into the right-center gap. A pair of walks and a Bentley error loaded the bases and forced in a run. Wagner, Comer, and Parente followed with RBI singles to extend the lead to 6-0.
  • The Falcons got on the board in the top of the sixth, using a triple and a sacrifice fly to cut into the deficit.
  • Adelphi responded in the bottom half with three more runs. After Parente singled, Priest delivered her third extra-base hit of the day to drive her in. Tarjan followed with an RBI double, and Klepper added a run-scoring single to give the Panthers an eight-run lead and enforce the mercy rule.

SNHU 3, Saint Anselm 2

Three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning sent Southern New Hampshire University softball to the Northeast 10 Championship, as the Penmen walked off Saint Anselm College, 3-2, in the opening round on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, third-seeded SNHU advances to the double-elimination championship at Franklin Pierce University and will face No. 2 seed Adelphi University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Locked in a scoreless game through four innings, Saint Anselm broke through in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks scored once on a throwing error and added another on a passed ball.
  • SNHU was held off the board until the seventh inning, when the Penmen mounted their comeback.
  • Freshman Payton Bryson (Franklin, N.H.) started the rally with a single before senior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) worked a walk and junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.) delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1. Moments later, junior Mikaya Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.) lined a double to right field, scoring two runs and completing the walk-off victory.
  • Alto finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Bryson recorded three hits to pace the offense.
  • Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out four over seven innings.

NOTES

  • SNHU advances to the Northeast 10 Championship with the win, which will be hosted by #1 seed and regular season champion Franklin Pierce University.
  • The Penmen defeated Saint Anselm in the Northeast 10 Championship for the first time.  The Hawks had won previous meetings in 2021 and 2023.  
  • SNHU has a 54-52 lead in the all-time series with the Hawks that dates back to 1981.  The teams had split the four regular season games.
  • Colbert improves to 18-7 in the circle, lowering her ERA to 1.65.  This was her 20th complete game of the season.
  • This was the fifth walk-off win of the season for the Penmen.
  • Alto joins senior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) with a team-leading 11 multi RBI games.
  • DeMoura has a 16-game reached base streak.
