Carreras Wins ITA Doubles Title; Singles Runner-Up

NE10 Player of the Week

Karim Carreras, New Haven

Carreras had a huge week for New Haven, as she was one of three regional champions for the Chargers at the ITA East Regional Championships in Flushing, NY. She won the women's doubles championship with her teammate, Valentinna Ferrarini, by a 9-7 score over Adelphi duo Roisin Boyd and Catarina Liedbeck. Additionally, Carreras advanced to the women's singles final where she retired due to injury after earning a 6-1 first set victory over teammate Risako Umekuni. Overall for the week, Carreras was 6-1 in singles and 6-0 in doubles, which includes a pair of victories in a 7-0 win for New Haven over Molloy last week. 


NE10 Rookie of the Week

Freshman | Amsterdam, Netherlands

 

Tsui went 9-2 last week, including 5-1 in singles. She began the week with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win against Zoe Asterio-Correa, as SNHU defeated Franklin Pierce University, 5-2, Tuesday. She then went 4-1 to advance to the quarterfinal round of the singles bracket of the ITA East Regional Championship. Without the benefit of an opening-round bye, she defeated three seeded opponents, before falling to the No. 14 seed. On the doubles side, she and Justina Haver beat Asterio-Correa and Gabriela Yamate, 6-3, in the FPU match and then won three matches, including against the second and fifth seeds, to reach the semifinals of the ITA East Regional Championship doubles bracket. They were eventually defeated by the No. 3 seed.
