East Region Champs (Again)! Franklin Pierce Women's Soccer Advances to Quarterfinals

Ravens Defeated Jefferson, 1-0.

RINDGE, N.H. - For the second-straight season, the Franklin Pierce women's soccer team has captured the NCAA Division II East Regional title with a 1-0 victory over Jefferson at Sodexo Field - punching its ticket to the national quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first 45 minutes of play saw solid Franklin Pierce possession, countered by strong defense by the Rams. With 8 shot opportunities by the Ravens, they were not able to find the back of the net. Franklin Pierce's defensive efforts held Jefferson to 2 shots in the first half. 
  • The second half was played similarly, featuring consistent passing by the Ravens that was halted before they had the chance to find the back of the net. In the 82nd minute, Olivia Crespo found Claudia Peirce in the middle of the field, who touched the ball wide to McKenna Maguire. Maguire looked to cross the ball back to Peirce, but instead found a Jefferson defender who tipped the ball into the net, giving the Ravens the 1-0 lead. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Franklin Pierce had 12 shots to Jefferson's 5.
  • Jess LaCroix made 3 saves on all 3 shots on goal. 
  • Jefferson had 11 fouls while Franklin Pierce had 6.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens will head to West Chester University in West Chester, Pa. for the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Franklin Pierce will take on the Rams on Saturday, December 6, at 1 p.m.
