New Haven's Umekuni Leads Charge

NE10 Player of the Week

Risako Umekuni, New Haven
Senior | Saitama, Japan

 

Risako led the Chargers in a 3-0 week going 5-0 with a pair of doubles victories and singles wins in all three matches. She opened up the week taking two victories from Adelphi, partnered with freshman Victoria Togores at No. 2 doubles and then recovering from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Roisin Boyd in three sets for a 4-3 win over Adelphi. She followed that up with a pair of wins against Saint Anselm, again at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles before moving up a spot and earning her first No. 2 singles victory of the season against Saint Michael’s Annabelle Aldrete.


NE10 Rookie of the Week

Laurence Bosmans, Assumption
Freshman | Lommel, Belgium

 

Bosmans improved to 4-2 on the year, as she went 2-1 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 in doubles action. After dropping a three-set match against Franklin Pierce, she rebounded to win No. 2 doubles 6-1 with Caroline Mader. On Thursday, Bosmans swept No. 1 singles against Gordon (6-0, 6-0), and nearly swept No. 1 doubles (6-1). She capped off the week with a 6-2, 6-2 win at Saint Michael's in top-flight singles before finishing off her third 6-1 win in doubles action with Mader.
