MANSFIELD, Mass. - New Haven and Southern Connecticut State dominated the Northeast-10 postseason Indoor Track & Field honors, winning seven of the ten trophies voted on by the league's coaches.
All three of New Haven's awards came on the women's side, led by NCAA qualifier Jada Kamtha capturing Field Athlete of the Year. Selected for the NCAA Championships in the Long Jump, Kamtha becomes the first Charger to win Field Athlete of the Year since the award was first given in 2014. Kamtha won the Pentathlon at last month's NE10 Championship in Boston.
Jumping 1.55m in Boston, Wilnye Joseph took silver at the NE10 Championship in the high jump. The performance helped earn her NE10 Field Rookie of the Year for New Haven. Chargers coach Shaunnaya Williams was also named Coach of the Year for the first time in her career. Williams becomes the first New Haven coach to win the honor on the women's side. The win marks the second for Williams overall after she was named 2023 Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
John Wallin took home the Men's Coach of the Year honor this winter, winning for the 11th time in his career. Like New Haven on the women's side, Southern Connecticut swept the field awards on the men's side. Cameron Belton, an NCAA qualifier in the Shot Put and the NE10 Champion, was named NE10 Field Athlete of the Year. Matteo Viviano earned Field Rookie of the Year. He was named NE10 Pole Vault champion as a rookie, clearing 4.40m.
The fourth, and final, Owl to win a trophy is Hannah Caiola. The runner was selected for the 400m at this month's NCAA Championship. Caiola won the NE10 Championship in both the 200m and 400m and she broke the NCAA record in the 300m earlier this season.
Bentley, Adelphi and Saint Anselm also saw student-athletes take home hardware. Lily Tedford was named Women's Track Rookie of the Year. She came in second in the Mile at the NE10 Championship and was part of Bentley's second-place 4x800 relay. The champion in the NE10 Men's 400m, Saint Anselm's Logan Montgomery claims men's Track Rookie of the Year. He is the first men's Rookie of the Year for the Hawks in history. Adelphi's David Williams was named Men's Track Athlete of the Year - a first for a Panther. Williams won the NE10 crown in the 60m Hurdles.
