"If you ain't first, you're last."
- Ricky Bobby
Pace's Andrew Wasik scored goals at a pace second to none when playing for the Pace Setters.
Only one person in the history of NCAA Division II men's lacrosse scored more goals over their career than Pace's Andrew Wasik. The NE10 Hall of Famer scored 247 goals between 1998 and 2001. When he graduated that was a DII record and it stood for nearly 20 years before Tampa's Andrew Kew surpassed it in 2019.
That wasn't Wasik's only record, however. The dazzling attackman scored 72 goals in two seperate seasons, a single-season NCAA DII record that stood until Kew in 2017. Merrimack's Charlie Bertrand also passed Wasick when he scored 78 times in 2019, leading the NE10 and the Warriors to a National Championship.
Wasik was the two-time NE10 Player of the Year and the 1998 NE10 Rookie of the Year. He was a four-time All-American and the 1999 USILA Attackman of the Year. His best single game came during Pace's 1999 NE10 Championship season -- a year where the Setters were ranked No. 1 for much of the year. Wasik found the cage 11 times vs. St. Anselm in '99, two goals off the NCAA record.
How good was Wasik? Well, yes, he's among the NCAA's all-time leaders. But at Pace, Wasik sits in first with 361 points, 141 ahead of second. For what it's worth, 141 points would put you ninth all-time for the Setters.
After Wasik's time in Pleasantville he played professionally in the National Lacrosse League for the Philadelphia Wings and in Major League Lacrosse for the Philadelphia Barrage.
