Panthers Fall 15-9 in National Title

SALEM, V.A. - In a rematch of the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse program could not hold back the University of Tampa, as the Spartans captured their second consecutive title by a final score of 15-9.

In Adelphi's twelfth title game appearance, the team from the north had the opportunity to be the first Division II women's team to reach double-digit titles - instead, the Spartans of the south won their second straight championship.

After letting up eight goals in the opening quarter, it was an uphill climb for the majority of the contest for Adelphi, as the Panthers only managed to get two on the board in the first 15 minutes of work. It was Ashley Kolomechuk's 72nd goal of the season that broke the silence, but not after serious damage was done by the Tampa attack.

Tampa padded their side of the board with two more in the second, but not until nine minutes rolled off the clock. The Panther defense worked hard to tire out the Spartan offense and a change between the pipes for Adelphi proved beneficial. After no saves in the first, Jillian McFadden recorded three in the second and finished with 13 in the contest, for season high in 2025.

The Adelphi defense continued their stand coming out of the halftime break and held the Spartans scoreless for over 10 minutes in the third. The Panthers netted the first three goals of the quarter to cut the Tampa lead to five, but another pair from the team of the south kept the Brown and Gold at bay. Despite outscoring Tampa 4-2, the deficit was too great to overcome. It was an even line in the final 15 minutes of work as each team sunk two goals apiece.

For their efforts, Kolomechuk, Sonny Lionetti and Amanda Lee were named to the 2025 NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Head Coach Pat McCabe and his squad conclude the 2025 season at 19-4 overall, bringing his career record to 182-32.
