Pace delivered its biggest win of the season Saturday afternoon, knocking off top-seeded Adelphi, 16-12, in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals at Motamed Field to punch its ticket to the national semifinals.

After Adelphi opened the scoring less than 30 seconds into the game, the Setters responded with a dominant first quarter that completely shifted momentum. Pace ripped off a 7-2 run behind a balanced offensive attack, getting goals from Annie Sheehan, Marissa Doty, Mary Kate Nawrocki, and Mackenzie Carita to take a 7-3 lead after one.

The Panthers answered in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 9-9 late in the half as Payson Hedges and Ashley Kolomechuk fueled the comeback effort. But Pace refused to surrender control, getting a key unassisted goal from Lia Villari with 14 seconds remaining before halftime to carry a 10-9 edge into the break.

Adelphi briefly tied the game at 11 early in the third quarter, but the Setters answered again. Sheehan scored midway through the frame before Nawrocki buried a go-ahead tally off a Doty assist to restore the lead for good at 12-11.

From there, Pace took over defensively and controlled the final quarter. Doty opened the period with her fifth goal of the afternoon, Maddie Schubert pushed the margin to three, and Carita added two more goals to help seal the upset. The Setters outscored Adelphi 4-1 in the fourth while limiting the Panthers to just four shots in the period.

Doty finished with five goals and four assists, while Sheehan posted seven points on four goals and three assists. Carita added three goals, and Nawrocki contributed two goals and an assist in a complete offensive performance. Camryn Smith made eight saves in goal for Pace.

The victory was especially significant for the Setters after falling to Adelphi twice earlier this season, including a one-goal defeat in the NE10 Championship game earlier this month. This time, Pace flipped the script when it mattered most, ending the Panthers' season and advancing to the NCAA semifinals.
