Adelphi Claims Three Major Honors as NE10 Rolls Out WLAX Awards

Undefeated regular season champions reap just rewards in postseason

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Adelphi continues to dominate on and off the Northeast 10 lacrosse field this spring.  After earning 14 men's lacrosse all-conference picks Monday, the Panthers added nine more honorees to the women's postseason all-conference list, announced by the conference office Tuesday.  AU also earned NE10 Attacker of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year after rattling off 11 straight wins to the end of the regular season.

All awards and all-conference teams were nominated and voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.

With a career-best 44 goals and 40 assists for 84 points in the regular season, AU senior Alexandra Leggio eanred NE10 Attacker of the Year.  The Seaford, N.Y. native is the first Panther to win since Alison Johnson in 2018 -- the last time Adelphi won the outright NE10 regular season title.  Leggio scored 12 points against Mercy in the season's penultimate game - the most by an NE10 offensive threat this spring.

Sonny Lionetti repeated as the league's top defensive player, a conference first since Adelphi's Ryler Weber in 2016 and '17.  Lionetti was an All-America Second Teamer in 2025 and a preseason First Teamer in 2026. She caused 29 turnovers and scooped more than 30 ground balls this year.

Finally, after leading Adelphi to an unbeaten regular season, Pat McCabe was named Coach of the Year for the third time in his career and the first time since 2018.  He's the third coach in three years to win the award after New Haven's Jen Fallon and Pace's Tricia Molfetta the last two years.

The Northeast 10's other major honors were awarded to Southern Connecticut's Caelan Connors (Goalkeeper of the Year), Pace's Marissa Doty (Midfielder of the Year) and  SNHU's Piper Knowlton (Rookie of the Year).

Doty is the third Pace Setter to win Midfielder of the Year over the last four seasons, joining one of the best players in the country over the last few years, Angelina Porcello, and Kayla Conway - who shared the trophy with Porcello in 2023.  A sophomore, Doty is the lone non-senior to earn a major end-of-year award this spring.

Knowlton was a three-time NE10 Rookie of the Week this season, scoring a season-best five goals on two occassions (Molloy and SCSU).  She is the fifth Penmen to win Rookie of the Year and first since 2016.

Connors, meanwhile, was a stalwart and a bulwark for SCSU during her team's best season in school history. The Owls posted a school record win total and cracked the national polls for the first time in April.  The senior New Yorker posted a career low goals against average and is the first Owl women's lacrosse player to win an NE10 postseason major honor.
