Bentley 3, Molloy 2
Box Score
The No. 8 ranked team in the country won more than 40 games this season mainly by bashing the long ball. Saturday afternoon the ball that sent Bentley to its first College World Series was simply the one that got away.
The Falcons, seeded No. 1 in East Regional, battled from behind Saturday, defeating Molloy, 3-2, on a walk-off wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth. With sophomore Jackson Wilburn at the plate, two outs and runners at second and third, reliever Jayden Patel's pitch bounced and skipped the shoulder of catcher Jeremy Taggart. The window gave Stan DeMartinis III the chance to scamper home and send Bentley to Cary, N.C..
The dream season continues for the Falcons, who will now play in their first DII College World Series during thier first appearance in the NCAA Championship at all. The spring also marked the first NE10 Championship for Bentley.
Molloy worked its way on the board first, scoring in the top of the first inning off Sam Belliveau. The pitcher was nearly flawless from there allowing just four hits while striking out eight in eight innings of work. Bentley battled back in the sixth inning, plating two on a Brendan Sencaj solo blast and a Tommy Bolton groundout. Molloy tied the game on a triple in the seventh.
Keegan Antelman worked a perfect top of the ninth to earn the win in relief.
