Caiola Breaks NCAA DII Record to Open 2024

NE10 Track Athlete of the Week

Hannah Caiola, SCSU
Junior I Glastonbury, Conn.


In the Owls' first meet of the 2024-25 season at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season opener, Hannah Caiola broke the NCAA Division II 300 Meters record with a time of 38.17. Caiola's time passed the record set in 2024 by Minnesota State's Denisha Cartwright who ran a 38.64. She also broke the SCSU indoor record of 40.09 set by Anna-Sashia Jones in 2022. Caiola's previous best time was 40.11, also at BU's Season Opener.


NE10 Field Athlete of the Week

Belle Smith, SCSU
Sophomore I Torrington, Conn.


In the first meet of the 2024-25 indoor season at the Yale Season Opener, Southern’s Belle Smith posted a pair of top-three finishes. The Torrington native finished second in the Shot Put event with a mark of 12.69m (41-07.75) and third in the Weight Throw at 14.95m (49-00.75).


NE10 Rookie of the Week

Rayniah Mercedat, New Haven
Freshman 


In her first collegiate meet, Mercedat competed in a pair of events, one solo events - 400m run, and one relay event - 4x400m. In her solo event, she finished sixth overall, in a field of 23, with a time of 59.94 and currently owns the top time in the NE10 in that event. In the relay, her squad finished fifth overall as she was partnered with Lakay-sha Clarke, Deja Harris and Jada Bonds.
