NE10 Men's Soccer Report: Week 2

Eight Point Week Lands Assumption's Wesley on Top of Weekly Honors

Week 2 - September 16, 2024

NE10 Player of the Week

Dylan Wesley, Assumption
Junior | Forward | Feeding Hills, Mass.

Wesley recorded three goals and added two assists for the No. 16 Greyhounds on the week. He netted the first goal for Assumption against Felician on Wednesday before scoring two goals and adding two assists in the Blue and White's 7-0 win against the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Sunday. His goal in the 8th minute was the game-winning goal against the Bengals. Wesley ranks second in the conference with eight points.

NE10 Defensive Player of the Week

Karl Vernet, Franklin Pierce
Graduate Student | Goalkeeper | Miami, Fla.

Vernet made nine saves in a 1-0-1 week for No. 1 Franklin Pierce.  The keeper stopped six shots during a weekend shutout against No. 23 Post, whom he also shut out in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

NE10 Goalie of the Week

Archie Watts, New Haven
Graduate Student | Bristol, England

Watts has been a wall in goal for the Chargers, registering his second and third clean sheet in as many games this week, now with three total on the year as he has yet to surrender a goal between the pipes. Combined in the two games this past week, he picked up four total saves, one against in-state rival Bridgeport in a 0-0 draw and three in a 2-0 shutout of Molloy.

NE10 Rookie of the Week

David Huang, New Haven
Freshman | Midfielder | China

Making his collegiate debut with the Chargers on the road at Molloy, Huang found the back of the net in his only shot of the contest, connecting with Sandro Branquinho for the assisted goal. It was a rather efficient outing for Huang who played just 25 minutes while registering two points.
