Each week during the academic year, the NE10 honors
Athletes of the Week for all of its 24 sponsored sports while they are in season. Faces in the Crowd shines a spotlight on outstanding on-field performances that didn't earn Athlete of the Week recognition, while also highlighting academic or community efforts from student-athletes across the league.
Below are this week's
NE10 Faces in the Crowd.
Connor Smith
School: Assumption
Sport: Football
Smith hauled in nine passes at Bentley Saturdy, the most by a receiver in an NE10 game this season. His biggest catch was a fourth quarter 34-yard touchdown in the corner that put Assumption ahead before Bentley ultimately came from behind to claim the NE10 crown. Smith has 16 catches in the last two games.
Jake Croce
School: Saint Anselm
Sport: Football
Croce went nuts on Saturday -- and it stareted on the opening drive. The sophomore broke off a 75-yard touchdown to open the action in Connecticut and then rumbled for 209 yards by game's end. Croce's day is the best in the conference this fall and the most yards rushing since 2023 by an NE10 back.
Madeline Chaapel
School: Adelphi
Sport: Volleyball
The junior had 15 kills in back-to-back matches -- both in three sets. That ties for the second most kills in a three-setter in the conference this fall (leading into the week). She hit .370 and .478 in both matches. THe Texan ranks fourth in the NE10 in kills this year.
Maggie Burchill
School: Saint Anselm
Sport: Field Hockey
Burchill scored all three of her goals this season last week (and all coming in the NE10 Championship). Burchill scored twice in the Championship final, tying the game in the third quarter and then winning it in 2OT. Burchill was named Championship Most Outstanding Player and the game-winner was her second championship clincher (she also scored the deciding goal in 2023).
Riley Mastowski
School: Franklin Pierce
Sport: Ice Hockey
The Ravens are on a heater to start the season, already packing more wins than they amassed in 2024-25. Mastowski is a big reason. The goalie is 3-0 and allowed just a single goal in each of two wins against SNHU over the weekend. He made 28 and 35 saves in the games and through the season's first three games he allowed only three goals at even strength.
