NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Saint Anselm's George Slauson hit for an incredible average this spring and Adelphi's John Carver just didn't get hit. Because of that, the pair were voted by the league's head coaches this week as the top player and pitcher over the course of the Northeast 10 season.
This marked the first year since 2019 that the conference awarded honors across the league instead of in each division. With that, it's the first time Saint Anselm has had a player outright claim the league's Player of the Year since Robert Kelly in 2011. The slugger ranked eighth in batting average, 21st in RBI and 26th in on-base percentage across all of Division II. He led the conference in average by 20 points and ranked second in RBI.
Carver made gigantic leaps on the mound for Adelphi this spring. The fifth year began his college career hurt, then posted ERA's of 16, 12 and nearly seven before becoming an elite arm in his final go-around. He went 6-1 with a 2.98 ERA and 84 strikeouts this spring, leading the entire country in strikeouts per nine innings pitched. He was 11th in hits allowed per nine innings as well. Carver K's 15 vs Assumption, 14 vs. Saint Michael's and 11 in seven two-run innings against NE10 champion SNHU.
Carver was pushed by SNHU rookie Zak Whitney, who takes home Rookie Pitcher of the Year. The Keene, N.H. product K'd 87 batters to the tune of a 3.59 ERA. He had double-figure strikeouts in his final two regular season outings with a season-best 14 against Jefferson early on.
Anthony Depetro is the Rookie Player of the Year. The catcher hit .388 with 36 knocked in this spring. He's the third Setter to win the honor -- all since 2022.
The NE10 champions, SNHU was rewarded heavily, earning 11 all-conference nods. Bentley, which finished runners up and took a series vs. SNHU, earned nine names on the lists, including six on the first team. Those six include Stan DeMartinis III, who set the school's single season and career home run records.
Bob Bellizzi Coach of the Year is awarded to SNHU's Chris Shank for the second time in three seasons.
